So, quick poll: great episode, or greatest episode?

I'm actually really glad that we hadn't seen Marcelline for so long, if they were building to that. I can't wait to see how they're going to top it.

Re: What time is it? (Adventure Time Season 3)
I liked how the first commercial after the episode was for the Lich. You have this heartwarming episode with this emotional ending, and the first thing you see after that is this abrupt image of the Lich's creepy face. No-ice!

Re: What time is it? (Adventure Time Season 3)
True, but i don't know why you would jump to that conclusion... i mean if VHS tapes(along with numerous other relics) survived then i don't see why books wouldn't have. Not to mention an interesting detail about the library is that its buried partly underground and thus actually evidence that the building itself might pre-date the mushroom war
And besides... From this episode, we know of at least one other book that we know for sure that pre-dates the mushroom war

Re: What time is it? (Adventure Time Season 3)
I found a blown-up picture of that newspaper clipping and did a transcription of what I could read. Not including the caption.
SpoilerSIMON PETRIKOV UNEARTHS ANCIENT TREASURE
Silly Man Returns From Expedition With Marginally Exciting Discovery
By Bruce Guese
Andersonsonian Standard
It was [a _____] morning that greeted the [gathering] of hard-drinking journalists and curious pigeons. The impromptu press conference was conven[ient for?] professor of archaeology and bon vivant Simon Petrikov. You may remember Petrikov for that thing Fa[__]u[__]nva. Well that guy is [back] from his [____] expedition in the [Hindu _____] or whatever.
With much pomp Petrikov unveiled the most significant [piece] from the dig to a rapt audience. [Turns] out it was just a book. A ratty-looking leatherbound manual whose title [Petrikov] had translated as 'The Enchiridion'.
The cover [impressed?] with a still life and inset [with] a variety of gems was alright to look at.
"The book seems to contain rules of [______]
The pic cut off there.
But look at the reporter's name. Bruce Guese? Choose Goose? Coincidence? I think not.
Also turns out that the newspaper was called the Andersonsonian Standard.

Re: What time is it? (Adventure Time Season 3)
So, if I understand it.
Spoiler
Simon is an Archaeologist, he finds the Enchiridion and, presumably, the Crown.
My personal theory is that the discovery of the Enchiridion introduced Magic to the world and led to the Mushroom War.
Either way the Mushroom War happens, Simon, with the crown, finds Young Marceline (We don't know where Hunson Aberdeen is at this point, probably doing something Chaotic Evil).
Simon raises Marceline. He uses the Crown to extend his life (Since she ages very slowly and can't survive on her own yet)/ give him the power to defend them from whatever threats are wandering around in the ruins of the Mushroom War. However, continual use of the Crown drives him insane. Eventually Simon: Archaeologist, Musician, and devoted caretaker is gone, and all you have is the Ice King. A sad man in a frozen castle with some penguins.
Also, I now want to see more of Simon & Tiny Marceline.

Re: What time is it? (Adventure Time Season 3)
Spoiler
Hunson must have raised her at some point in her thousand-year lifespan. We know for a fact that he stole her fries at some point.
He could have left her in the Ruins, forgotten about her for a few hundred years, then stumbled back into her life after Simon lost his mind and she had matured enough to live independently.

Re: What time is it? (Adventure Time Season 3)
True, but he doesn't seem to have the same kindness towards Marceline.
The fries are a metaphor for neglect, and lack of care towards her.
And simon was there when she needed him the most.Last edited by Scowling Dragon; 2012-10-16 at 01:22 PM.

Re: What time is it? (Adventure Time Season 3)
Well,
SpoilerHunson might simply be taking advantage of the whole "end of the world" thing and going on soul-consuming rampages across the earth. Heck, who's to say that he told her to wait in that general area while he finish's of Finland(heh), or something.
I mean, he is just a few steps down from being the local equivulent of Satan, so who's to say that he was not on a 200+ year "busness trip" and then stumbled apon his little monster safe as ever? Of course, this brings in mind what Hudson would think of a strange, mentaly disturbed "old" man hanging around with his daughter for a few generations, but thats a relitivly minor detail.

Re: What time is it? (Adventure Time Season 3)
Okay, that episode was goddamn adorable. Marceline is tied with Beemo for my favorite character, and Simon's past before being the Ice King is so tragic; thus, it was very cool to see their past together. Heartwarming and heartbreaking all at once. This definitely surpasses "What Was Missing" as my favorite episode ever in this show.

Re: What time is it? (Adventure Time Season 3)
Spoiler
He probably didn't care. Heck, if Simon had gone senile and wandered off before he got back, Hunson may not even have known that his daughter spent a few hundred years being cared for by a kindly archaeologist.
Hrmm, you know. Marceline's powers and vulnerabilities are not really defined. She avoids sunlight, but that could be more about discomfort than actual harm. Also, in the aftermath of the Mushroom War, dust clouds could have made sure there wouldn't be much in the way of sunlight for some time.
So Hunson leaves his daughter in the ruins, knowing she's in no real danger, or if she is, simply not caring (Perhaps with the logic of "Any REAL daughter of mine will do just fine out there"). His plan is that she'll spend a few centuries rampaging among the survivors, drinking their blood or eating their souls or whatever.
Instead, Simon finds her. Depending on her innate powers, she may or may not have been in any real physical danger, but he raises her, protects her, teachers her. This goes on for awhile, until he finally loses his memories.
Hunson returns, sees that his daughter has survived. Rather than a chaotic-evil killing machine, she's a basically good, if somewhat selfish, person who enjoys messing with people.

Re: What time is it? (Adventure Time Season 3)
SpoilerYou have a point. Heck, if she only got turned by that time, Hudson might have been okay with the whole caregiver thing, thinking that his daughter managed to delude the wizerd into taking care of her. Renfield jokes probably would have occured. And, if you realy want to make a nasty joke relating to Simons northern-europianess, Staffan.
I would put a gif, but I think this is a nice alternitive.

Re: What time is it? (Adventure Time Season 3)
Anyone think it would be interesting if "Simon" had all these connections to everyone and the show built to him eventually being the "true hero in Adventure Time ?
