Re: Coid's Crowing Conundrum of a Canticle of Crookedly Random Banter #185
A non discworld reading follower of geeky culture? I didin't think they still existed...
It's just about the accent, plus I can't help but remember autralian accents as spoken by Paul Hogan aka Crocodile Dundee. I'm sorry to force this stigma upon you, but I just can't help it... (I know family of mine in australia who have notably less accent, but still dundee is the baseline for the accent)Warlock Poetry?
Or ways to use me in game?

Re: Coid's Crowing Conundrum of a Canticle of Crookedly Random Banter #185
I've never read any of the Diskworld novels either, however, I have "Interesting Times" on my to read shelf. My friend gave it to me read but I've not gotten around to it, as there's a whole stack in front of it and not much time to read.

Re: Coid's Crowing Conundrum of a Canticle of Crookedly Random Banter #185
When I joined this thread was just created. I have been on maybe, oh, a week so far and already this thing is getting senile. Fruit flies live longer. On the other forums I go to 50 pages in this amount of time would wreck the system. People would be spambanned faster than you can say "Sorry, we just really like talking about Action Bronson!"

This thread is actually going quite slow for Random Banters.

A week is still slow to me, but then again I still think of RB as the past threads lasting 2/3 days at most. x)

Re: Coid's Crowing Conundrum of a Canticle of Crookedly Random Banter #185
I have to agree. It's been rather gentle, like the Thames. As opposed to Victoria Falls like it usually is.
Anyway... UNDERGROUND ORCHIDS! The world just keeps getting stranger and stranger...
Did you know that? Australia has underground species of orchid? Orchids! Underground!
My worldview has been shattered and now I am merely repeating the fact that orchids can grow underground. One species of which never shows itself on the surface.
What was I saying?
Oh yes. Australia is incredibly weird and wonderful, even more so than usual.Mauve Shirt, Savannah, Gnomish Wanderer, Cuthalion and Smuchmuch get cookies for making me avatars. (::)

Stop that! At this rate I'll be earning commissions from the Department of Tourism for every instance when I have to remind people that Australia is a country only dangerous to people who are idiots or leave their common sense at home.
Agreed. Do not drink the thread under any circumstances. The levels of crazy around here can reach levels equal to seventeen kilozans. For a point of reference, a swarm of Budgies is only equivalent to one kilozan, unless said swarm happens to be accompanied by the Budgie Emperor.
Fortunately, tales of dead bodies floating in the thread are exaggerated. Those are usually consumed by scavengers within the first few hours.Mauve Shirt, Savannah, Gnomish Wanderer, Cuthalion and Smuchmuch get cookies for making me avatars. (::)

I'm actually really glad Australia is the focal point for horrifying wild life, if only because it means that it's not spread out amoung the world. If the ENTIRE WORLD had their own creepy crawly that could kill you by staring at your ankles, it'd kinda suck.

Re: Coid's Crowing Conundrum of a Canticle of Crookedly Random Banter #185
Looks brown to me. Given, some spots are a bit difficult to analyse at this low resolution, and could be leaves rather than budgie wings...
You know, Sweden gets several months of drought each year as well. The only difference is that we call it "winter" over here.
Well, I suppose some of our evergreens could stand a fighting chance thanks to having a protective wax layer over their needles, but yeah, the trees wouldn't know how to react, even if they possess the tools...
That depends. I never said that there would be an infinite amount of budgies present at the same moment, only that the swarm would be endless, or ineradicable. Perhaps they spawn in budgie/anti-budgie pairs with energy borrowed from the future, and then fly off to their respective swarms...Clouddreamer Teddy by me, high above the world, far beyond its matters...

Re: Coid's Crowing Conundrum of a Canticle of Crookedly Random Banter #185
How?! Why?! Was there someone with a rabid hatred of plays and the theatre in your school/school district?
Well, I do prefer reading to actual experimentation, most of the time, especially when it involves someone's health. But it was an unmissable opportunity.
And many of my walls of text are essays in disguise. I think people would get worried if I went a while without a wall of text. They'd also be pretty relieved (perhaps) that they'd not have to read/skim aforementioned wall-o'-text.
Well I can understand that some people might find the anti-Semitic sentiments in Merchant uncomfortable to read and study. I'd actually have leapt at the chance to do Merchant. I'm guessing that Macbeth was mandatory in Y11 from your wording?
Never read the other two plays though, but I am told The Crucible is interesting.
I suppose. If it encourages people to look beyond the usual viewpoints I don't think it's awful.
Oi!
Just because it was popular doesn't mean it's not worth studying! This is why popular and popular prose romances are overlooked. Just because they were popular or derivative doesn't mean they should be overlooked.
If anything, popular entertainment is worth studying to find out what was commonly used, to extrapolate why a certain trope/mytheme/story wasn't as common/popular/fell out of use and so on.
After all, if it was popular there has to be a reason.

I hate squirrels now.
I was just walking to the bus, when I passed a trash can. This deranged squirrel proceeded to jump out of the trash can, catch one of its little squirrel claws on my brand new coat - tearing a hole in it - then scamper down my leg and away. So now whenever anyone asks about the giant hole in my new coat, I have to tell them "squirrel attack."Quotes!

Tell me about it. The thick veil of the autumn, occupying the sky, feasting on what feeble sunlight has been granted your reality. A day of eternal dusk, no more verdant down low than what little you find up high. You weep, and the world shares your sorrow.
A silent elegy.
A symphony of misery.Last edited by Teddy; 2012-11-27 at 02:39 PM.
