Re: Fallout VIII: Another Thread Needs Your Help General
Do make sure to play the tables at the Madre while you are there. After all, how often does one get to play in a pre-war fully functional casino? Those chips are far more valuable than caps, all things considered. And hey, if you do well enough, you might end up with long-term compensation. Just don't play so well that they kick you out.
Also, there's several things that the chips can be traded in for. Pre-War cash is one option, stimpacks and repair kits are two others, as well as several types of ammo. And apparently they have unlimited supplies.
As Triaxx said, there's a Sierra Madre dispenser in the bunker available after you complete the DLC. Do make sure to check the terminal in the same room.SpoilerQuite possibly, the best rebuttal I have ever witnessed.

Re: Fallout VIII: Another Thread Needs Your Help General
So I've managed to merge God/Dog, help Christine get over her revenge and kill Dean because seriously Screw this jealous prick, he started this whole Sierra Madre stupidity in the first place with his crazy scheme to knock Sinclair knock down a few pegs. I mean the Sierra Madre Vault idea doesn't even make sense: Vaults are supposed to work because there is a sustainable enough population to keep reproducing people until the radiation dies down. what was Sinclair even going to DO with Vera if they succeeded? make their children commit incest? in this one room vault with no bathroom? that and their vending machine still only accepts sierra madre chips, would they even have enough chips to sustain them for long? this whole idea doesn't seem well thought out even if Sinclair changed it halfway through to be a trap for Dean.
but now comes the hard part: getting out of here with all 37 bars. the game is under some mistaken assumption that I'm supposed to learn to not be greedy and not take so many with its cute constant warnings, its patched defenses to make sure that I can't slip past Elijah and the fact that my bomb collar explodes long before I can get out if I kill him. screw you game, I'm not getting out of this without a reward, the rest of the Mojave I did out of the goodness of my heart, but I'm getting something for MYSELF this time. and I have no idea where the weapon repair kit code is (its in the stupid police station at the BEGINNING of all this darn it)
I just have to figure out a new way to get past this, because the old method was apparently patched over to make this harder.
so yeah, thats where I'm at. and no I'm not taking suggestions to forget the gold bars, there is no point to the heist without the payoff. yes I am aware about breaking the casino and other tricks involving the weapon repair kits you guys told me earlier. I still only have Luck 2 and have completely missed that code entirely. if only I had my sonic gun from Old World Blues, these seem to be the same force fields after all, so they should get dissipated by its shots. or some way to speed myself up, or some way to get around the encumbrance.

Re: Fallout VIII: Another Thread Needs Your Help General
The Sierra Madre Vault wasn't intended to be a typical living population vault. It was supposed to be 'me and my love being literally the last people alive on the planet' romantic nature. Definition of 'romantic' being the typical bodice ripper harlequin novel version, of course.
I've saved Dean before, but it can be surprisingly challenging to do, and he actually becomes less of a jerk if you work with him. However, to get this dialogue option, you have to not remind him that if you die, he dies.

1) Toss the bricks through the forcefield wall, then pick them back up at the end.
2) Immediately leave the Vault to backtrack through the area, forcing Elija into the Dean Trap (which, by the way, is amusing because you can bring him up on the radio on your pip-boy and he has some dialogue trying to still convince you to let him out). You might have to huff Jet like it is going out of style, maybe Turbo as well.SpoilerQuite possibly, the best rebuttal I have ever witnessed.

Re: Fallout VIII: Another Thread Needs Your Help General
There's a way to sneak past Elijah, get through the forcefield door before Elijah activates security to fight you, and then lock him downstairs forever--there is an achievement for it, but doing it with the gold bars in hand is definitely the hardest way to approach the problem. You'll need to use one of the 75+ skill check options to get him to come down without immediately activating security, and fairly high Sneak skill (both the actual stat and the player skill to stay out of Elijah's sight, the Silent Running perk helps here, too) to get past him. If you have low Sneak and low Luck, then you may not be able to claim the bounties of the Sierra Madre. Either way, you're going to need to abuse saving a lot if you're going to try.

Re: Fallout VIII: Another Thread Needs Your Help General
oh I did do the peaceful option for Dean. I have a barter of 7, I wouldn't have ticked him off no matter how hard I try, so I didn't bother. its just that he admitted to make Christine a key for his vault heist by taking away her voice and admitted that he basically made Sinclair build this entire place by introducing Vera to him, with no remorse. so after he told me to string the music together I killed him. Dean is just a massive petty jerk who deserves it.
But I have a Sneak of like, 89, plus the assassin suit means its 94 and each time I still get caught before I get past the forcefields....the Turbo sounds like a plan though....
Edit: I have successfully gotten of the Sierra Madre with all 37 gold bars, then sneaked over to the police station, got the weapon repair kit, snuck back, then went back to the Mojave. I'll make do with receiving "only" 100 SM chips per three days infinitely. I had to use console commands to make all the Turbo to get out and now I'm addicted however, but I only consider it fair because the game was being an insta-death jerk about it and its not up to the game to decide whether my character dies from not learning their lesson about greed. I took the long way around and left ol' Elijah to rot in the Dean trap if anyone is curious. I went back to Veronica to tell her about what happened, and she seem to just accept that Elijah was evil and move on. Cool. I'm sad there is no option to tell Veronica about Christine though. one would think there'd be option to get them back together, but ok, whatever. its implied that Christine's the one that Veronica had a relationship with, so its kind of weird to me that we don't get anything to follow up on it, not even to tell either of them about how the other is doing.
my plan for next time: probably finding someone to get rid of my Turbo addiction and/or just accepting it and becoming female Dio Brando. figuring out how to repair various things and maybe getting around to Honest Hearts.Last edited by Lord Raziere; 2018-07-14 at 07:48 PM.

A friend of mine got the gold bars out with explosives.
He set some mines, hunkered down next to the forcefield under a stealth boy, and when elijah set off the mines, he got blown through the force-field.The Cranky Gamer

Re: Fallout VIII: Another Thread Needs Your Help General
I have a feeling that, upon getting my weapons back while in Caesar's fort, that shooting the guards, then walking into his tent and killing him (after having talked to him all of once, just before getting the key to the 38 bunker) and shooting my way out of camp wasn't exactly the canon response. And while I'm not good with explosives... well... they're explosive. You only have to be close in horse shoes and hand grenades and I was all out of horse shoes.
At some point though I had decided "if I can't decide anything at all without a good speech skill I may as go all-in on the "shoot everything I don't like" approach to problem solving."
I guess it just goes to show you just can't trust psychopath with a gun, and inviting him in after sending assassins after him a dozen times is probably not a good idea. Oddly enough I let Benny go though.

Re: Fallout VIII: Another Thread Needs Your Help General
Started the Fallout game I literally never played or watched anyone play: Fallout Tactics. Currently half way through the third mission.
I'm digging the ability to have full control over your team, especially on the back of finishing Fallout and Fallout 2. Games where it sometimes seems like your companions are actively working against you.
Having it be real time takes some getting used to, but it does speed the game up. Also like the stance system and the hit chance threshold system.Awesome OOTS-style Fallout New Vegas avatar by Ceika. Or it was, before Photobucket started charging money.

Re: Fallout VIII: Another Thread Needs Your Help General
I'm sure he dies most of the time. I just wasn't entirely sure I would get the chance later or not or if finishing some things would just end up with him dead. I wanted to shoot him in the head.
I've been looking for a sniper rifle for a long time, and I finally found one. It only took all of my rad-away and a trip to the doctor. I could have handled that better for sure.
So I found an Assault Carbine Magazine Extender, just after finding an Assault Carbine. But it isn't letting me mod it, it just doesn't show anything available in the mod menu. Not sure if it is a bug, something to do with the extender being a Gun Runner's Arsenal item, or if I'm just missing something else. I'm not sure if I had restarted the game since picking them up.
Also, is there any way to remove a mod from a weapon? Like if I put something on a service rifle, then find a unique service rifle, can I move it?

You can only move the mods with the weapon mod menu mod. But unique weapons can't be modded.

There are also some mod compatibility issues when a weapon has a vanilla version and a GRA version. You may need a GRA mod for a GRA weapon.

Re: Fallout VIII: Another Thread Needs Your Help General
Found it in a certain vault, perhaps? That's not a bad weapon, if it is the one I'm thinking of. Not as much damage per shot as it's chambered in 5.56 instead of .308, but higher rate of fire, and still just as accurate.
The Brotherhood tend to have a lot of high-tech equipment, but they tend to go 'loud and proud' unless they're on like an assassination mission or something. It wouldn't be out in the Mojave, at any rate. Also, Ranger Snipers are well known for their sniper rifles. If there was a place which one might set up a 'hide' to pick off Legion troops, that would be a good place to look. They would have probably made it difficult for any Legion unit to get their hands on it, though.SpoilerQuite possibly, the best rebuttal I have ever witnessed.

Re: Fallout VIII: Another Thread Needs Your Help General
Yeah, the vault. The named weapon was a service rifle if I remember correctly (haven't equiped it yet due to being in poor condition). The sniper rifles were standard.
I also *just* found the Gun Runners place. I'm not sure how I missed it considering how close I was to it for so long. Well yes I do, I went through Vegas instead of around it so I didn't find everything.
I had wondered about the GRA thing, because the mod is GRA and the weapon is not. As far as I can tell the two versions are identicle. Can't even easily switch out the mod or the weapon for the other type without costing a few thousand caps (poor barter). Might just use the console commands to fix this obvious and stupid bug by giving myself the correct version.
Is there an actual limit to the number of implants you can buy, other than just one of each?

Re: Fallout VIII: Another Thread Needs Your Help General
If you're talking about the All American down in the bowels of Vault 34, it's a Marksman's Carbine, which is a bit more than 'just' a Service Rifle, in that it has a full sniper scope already attached. It also does a bit more damage than a Service Rifle, although not as much as a Sniper Rifle does. Then again, it's got a deeper magazine and far higher rate of fire than a Sniper Rifle as well. Serves pretty darn well as a sniper toy, even if it is on the light end. Good for picking off packs of lightly armored enemies at range. Like, say, Fiends. Or Fire Geckos.
I also *just* found the Gun Runners place. I'm not sure how I missed it considering how close I was to it for so long. Well yes I do, I went through Vegas instead of around it so I didn't find everything.

Tactics vehicles are pretty sweet. Kinda goes against the scarcity theme, but hey Fallout 2 had a working car. Just gotta be careful of heavy weapons. Sadly you can't ride for all missions, but I suppose level design and balance would be an issue.

The best thing about the All American is that sometimes if you take Boone to the armory he'll just grab the thing and equip it himself, which is great if you want him to have a good gun but don't want to worry about constantly feeding him thousands of rounds of ammo.

Re: Fallout VIII: Another Thread Needs Your Help General
Definitely Tactics seems to act as though working ground vehicles are commonplace in the BOS. It makes sense now that I think about it; this is a splinter faction that is aggressively expanding. Without vehicles, they would have difficulty transporting troops and supplies quickly. That's not much of an issue for the more isolationist type of BOS. Smaller territory, defensive mindset.
So far I have the Hummer and the armored carrier from St Louis. Funny story; first time I controlled the Hummer I accidentally ran over the squad medic. Whoops. He didn't die, but I was surprised it could actually happen.Awesome OOTS-style Fallout New Vegas avatar by Ceika. Or it was, before Photobucket started charging money.

Figures. Just when I feel like I'm getting halfway competent at the game, I get sent to Kansas. It would be nice if I had some $&$_&¥€×∆ time to get my people in position, but no. Re: Fallout VIII: Another Thread Needs Your Help General
You can install up to your base Endurance in implants. I'll note that this only applies to implants that you buy from the Followers Clinic near Vegas; there are a number of DLC Implants that don't count against this limit.
I also like what Project Nevada does with cybernetic implants. Instead of being a one-and-done thing that you're stuck with, implants are physical items that you can find hidden in the world, in vendor inventories, and take to doctors for them to put in you. You can also take them out and replace them with a new complement, and upgrade your capacity with perks.I run a Let's Play channel! Check it out!

Re: Fallout VIII: Another Thread Needs Your Help General
So apparently if you pick up faction armor and then pass it off to a partner it gives you the "they can't wear this faction armor" but then it just disappears. I found this out after I picked up my second set of BOS power armor and went to get the other set off Rex to repair and realized it wasn't there. Not sure if I had just misplaced it, and not having the room to carry 40lbs myself and I couldn't wear it yet, I give it to Rex again. See the message and go to do something else with him and see the armor is gone. I could reload that lost armor but not the previous stuff. I *assume* I'll get to wear it soon.
I also found Veronica finally, I had wondered since I heard mention of her a lot in this thread and I hadn't came across her yet and it seemed like something that should have happened a long time ago. I had always heard "explore around a lot, there are things hidden everywhere," so I did, which meant not following the roads. There were a number of "the player should easily find this right in the middle of the road" things that I in fact didn't find for the longest time because I was taking back routes looking for things.
Not sure if I should change companions. I've got Lily now, and while she hasn't seemed to have much unique to say for much, she still seems to have endeared herself to me. Its hard to kick her to the curb when she's like you grandma.
