Re: Things you never noticed
Well, yeah since they cut off if you reach the limit. What he meant was that the cleric used the 25 words intentionally, like Julia but with a more complete sentence.

Re: Things you never noticed
I think I've noticed a mistake:
In #703 the hobgoblin mother is clearly shown having one straight line representing her feet, as opposed to the usual three lines. Perhaps this is a unique feature among female goblins, you might say. However, strip #93 clearly shows two female goblins with three lines representing their feet, so I believe that to be a mistake.
Either that, or that's one of the differences between goblins and hobgoblins. Or a differenting genetic trait among the goblin races at large (like eye colors for humans). Or the #703-hobgoblin has lost them somehow.
Oh and also, it took some time before I realized that goblins and hobgoblins have three lines representing their feet.
And at the first read-through, I never realized that Miko's armor changed color.

Re: Things you never noticed
That was zql's point. EVERY Sending spell in the comic has had exactly 25 words - not just from Nale, Julia and the elf cleric, but also the one Haley wrote on the wall for the Cleric of Loki to send, and the one from Dorukan to Xykon in SoD. There might be others; I can't recall off the top of my head.
It's definitely not a trait among females. We've seen lots of female goblins, and almost all have the three-toed feet; this hobgoblin and Redcloak's mother are the only exceptions. The jury's out on whether it's intentional or not.Last edited by Nimrod's Son; 2010-05-15 at 11:05 PM.

Re: Things you never noticed
In 365, after V catches Nale (disguised as Elan) making out with Sabine, s/he tells him that his sash is on backwards, presuming that it was rearranged during the romantic scuffle, but he had always been wearing it like that, since that was the way he always wore it as Nale; V helps him correct a costuming error.
And I guess V is relatively accepting of "Elan's" apparent bisexuality because of V's own questionable orientation.
Also, in 397 Nale appears to have been blasted through the panel by V like Haley was in 518, but in fact there is just not enough room to draw all three characters, so Nale's head ends up protruding from the comic.Last edited by Puns de León; 2010-05-22 at 11:16 PM.

Re: Things you never noticed
Or because she either can't really distinguish human sexes at a glance or doesn't consider them important.
Or because Elan might actually be Bi (something happened at that summer camp, apparently, and unless it was someone else forcing himself on him...).
Or because she just doesn't care about anyone's sexual orientation.

Re: Things you never noticed
She always has been. Born that way, I imagine.
However, while looking at the strip after that, where the smith reforges the sword between cutaway panels, I noticed something that hadn't struck me before about Haley's aphasia. When the cleric tells Haley to "Stick out your tongue and say 'Ahhhh!'", she opens her mouth, sticks out her tongue, and says "Xcccc!"
Scrambled brain or no, how the hell does she do that? I can't make X or C sounds with my mouth open, let alone with my tongue stuck out. I'm trying, right now, and my cat is alarmed.Last edited by mucat; 2010-05-23 at 02:48 AM.

In 458, I noticed that Nale has his goatee back, but I never noticed that it's still shorter than it was before he cut it off.

Re: Things you never noticed
In strip 356, Roy uses the term "Shot to Hades". Considering that most people don't even know that the gods of the East ever existed, it seems odd that Roy (Despite knowing of them from Shojo) would use a phrase like that.
Edit: right, noticed right after I posted >.<Last edited by Yana; 2010-05-26 at 05:05 PM.

Re: Things you never noticed
I noticed these two several months ago, but I just felt like sharing them:
#613's title ("I Need a Hero") also refers to Belkar's desire for a sandwich within the strip. (I always thought of "Holding Out for a Hero", particularly the cover in Shrek 2.)
In #365, Nale foreshadows/jinxes the only person toseesmell through his disguise.

Re: Things you never noticed
Off the top of my head there was this one a little earlier than that. There might well be others too.
(And, as Hobs said, in War & XPs there's a "blasting out of Mos Eisley" spoof in the strip immediately prior to the one you linked.)Last edited by Nimrod's Son; 2010-06-03 at 06:40 AM.
