Re: Archonic's Archaic Acronymical Antidisestablishmentarianism Random banter 148
Try it. o.o But keep in mind that it is a very, very, very long game no matter which one you play, so be prepared for a long haul. And quite probably a few points where you have to grind EXP.
It's...basically one of the seminal RPG series, but it also doesn't matter which one you start with since they aren't a "series" in the sense of plot. So you can start with any one that you like.

Re: Archonic's Archaic Acronymical Antidisestablishmentarianism Random banter 148
I'm going to go out on a limb and guess The Death of the Author.
ION: Ruddigore dress rehearsal was awesome.
We were coming up with amusing (And in many cases, inappropriate) alternative lyrics to the songs.
The ghost scene was amazing. We actually got applause when the lights went back up on us after the blackout. My portrait's also really great.
And then afterwards, for some reason, we went to the beach. Found some people who'd got their car stuck in the sand. Fortunately Despard had a tow-rope. And then there were antics with running into the sea, and Despard pretending to be a Viking iust arrived to pillage our lands, and using shoes as phones.
Oh, and we made up a theme song for Despard's beach-rescue service."'But there's still such a lot to be done...'
YES. THERE ALWAYS IS."

Re: Archonic's Archaic Acronymical Antidisestablishmentarianism Random banter 148
I'm not really sure. It was the DS remake. The story seemed quite weak. What bothered me most was that there were a limited number of phoenix downs Drove me nuts.
I agree that bad graphics can definitely hurt a good game, and sometimes even make it totally unplayable, but that's more a matter of making the graphics work to coincide with the gameplay itself.
See, I'm not the kind who thinks that a game should have good graphics or good gameplay. I think it should have BOTH. That graphics should be a focus of how to best represent the space in a game, rather than how to show off a system's ability to render graphics, and that gameplay should be engaging, whether it be story-driven, mindless shooting, rhythm gameplay, or even a sports title. A good game doesn't just focus on one or the other, it focuses on BOTH in relation to what the game requires and needs in order to be a good game.
@ CynicalAvocado - You poor deprived soul You should pick them up some time. Do you have a Playstation?
I also really enjoyed Final Fantasy Tactics Advanced 1 and 2. I like the strategic gameplay and the party building.

Re: Archonic's Archaic Acronymical Antidisestablishmentarianism Random banter 148
No, I've played IV (also DS remake) It was definately III. You had a party of 4 that were always the same characters and as you advanced you unlocked different classes that you could change them to. There was one point you had to turn mini to go into a mini cavern in a dragon statue. So annoying, I usually only had one spell caster and physical attacks did nothing when you were mini.
It seems I've went off on a tangent. Hmm, well it was definitely III.

Hm. Didn't know Highwind was a common element in all Final Fantasys.
Common elements I did know about are chocobos and people called Cid."'But there's still such a lot to be done...'

Re: Archonic's Archaic Acronymical Antidisestablishmentarianism Random banter 148
I'm notoriously bad at finishing games, so I've never actually finished a Final Fantasy.
I've played I and II for about 2 seconds each.
Almost beat III.
Got stuck on IV at some bridge with a boss at the end.
Can't remember how far in IX.
Very close to beating X but I saw the end.
Almost beat X-2 as well.
Can't remember how far in XII either.
About half way through XIII.
Got frustrated with Tactics.
Had to return the borrowed copy of Tactics Advanced.
XII Revenent Wings annoyed me.
I actually beat Tactics Advanced 2, after clocking 96 hours on it.
A very bad track record. I think I can actually count the number of games I've completed on one hand. It doesn't help that Brother #1 beats them first, so I always find out the story that way.
I liked Cid in X, he was great.

Oooh, nice you made some new friends. Especially the girls; though why they're here is another mystery.
I can't see a thing. Was it about dolls?
HA! TOLD YOU!
Now you see why I kept whining about THAT ONE PAPER?
And that's only one theory. Wait until you get to the rebuttals and all the rest of the theories iust on authors.

My first theory lecture is today. I will probably walk away with a lot of notes.
Also, you mention the theories about authors... well, I'm about to read Michel Foucault's What Is an Author?...
Yes indeedy.

Further to my general massive enthusiasm at you being back, do you have anything interesting in your 0th week? As I recall, mine was always iust 'Turn up, wave my smartcard at a thing to prove I'm there, go home and wait until lectures start the following week', but Oxford might be more interesting?

Re: Archonic's Archaic Acronymical Antidisestablishmentarianism Random banter 148
It's probably the sudden absence of really long posts.
Wow. Those are good. Biology Friend cosplays, so I know a small bit about it, and those must have taken hours to make. Especially the hair.
HAHA!
I hated that essay too. That one also has a truckload of theory behind it. Iust wait until you get into reader-response theory and you mix in the author stuff with it.
It's interesting though.
Not that I attended more than five lectures on the theoretical side for the entire year.
>.>
<.<
There were eighteen.
Unpack. Find all your friends. Every 0th week you have to pay your accomdation bill. There are Collections (internal college tests on the material you studied last term (or, with Michelmas 0th weeks for English students, on what you were set as holiday work, and will be studying in detail that term). Shop for groceries. Hang out with friends you haven't seen since last term. And then the boring stuff like organise you schedule for the term so your lectures and tutorials don't clash, and actually revise for COllections. Oh, and naturally, do all the holiday work you were set, but didn't bother to do.
Michaelmas 0th weeks are busier and also involve registering for the internet in your new room. Meeting your child/children; possibly helping the new intake move their kit into their rooms, most second years get roped into helping the ICR organise getting-to-know-you events for the first years and general events to help them settle in. Parents Drinks where you meet your kids.
Oh, and the Fresher's and Refresher's Fairs.
So it's a little busy.

I iust noticed that if you look out of my room, and up to the roof across the street you can see thirteen gargoyles.

Ah. So, basically all the things every uni student has to do, except the ones who live in the area, like me. And these 'Collections'. And you go to Fresher's Fair again?
They're watching you...
ION: Iust got the email with the cut down script of The Grand Duke for NUGSS this year. Most of the bits I particularly like have been left in, the one bit I would definitely cut out has been cut out, it looks to be good.
Also, I have a lot of G&S at present.
Sunday iust gone, rehearsing Iolanthe with one society.
Monday (Yesterday), dress rehearsal for Ruddigore.
Tuesday - Saturday, Ruddigore performances.
Sunday, Iolanthe rehearsal.
Next Monday, Iolanthe auditions.
Next Tuesday, Grand Duke rehearsal.
Next Thursday, Grand Duke auditions.
Whee, lots of singing.Last edited by Thufir; 2010-10-05 at 08:51 AM.

*awaits*
I have 2 lectures per week, 1 for each module. Part of the assessment is attendance, though, so I'm definitely going to all of them.
I can see this inspiring a horror story from a certain Curly very soon...
In the same way that those Gargoyles can see you!

No no no...obviously the answer is to not STOP looking...if you stop looking, they'll be upon you in an instant.
That, or maybe they just filter all the dead bugs that drain out through the gutters and feed off of their nutrients.
