Re: Murphy's Law 7: ...Maybe?
I'm just going to say this: Remember, this is a comic where it's not "Detect Evil," so much as it is "Detect Whatever My Deity Really Hates." Johan is not a nice person. But he's not a one-dimensional mustache-twirling villain either.

Re: Murphy's Law 7: ...Maybe?
So what, just because someone is a serial killer doesn't mean they can't have a heart of gold and help out local charities on the side?

Re: Murphy's Law 7: ...Maybe?
But you haven't shown us that. We react to what is shown in the comic.
Besides, there's nothing wrong with one-dimensional villains, in moderation. Michael Myers was very one-notethe first Halloween picture and was all the scarier because of it. If written well, such a villain can be frightening because he is so inomprehensible, because we can't get inside his head and see what's going on.
What if she had to choose? Either escape alone or live with her sister in a hellhole? Life does not alway offer the best solution.Last edited by Asta Kask; 2011-09-08 at 06:00 AM.

Re: Murphy's Law 7: ...Maybe?
Really, I don't think it'd be wise to develop Johan as more than a one-dimensional villain. It's bad enough to read abuse stories in a stickfigure comic, it doesn't really seem like a suitable format for such serious and heavy morality. Then again, I think we can trust CoffeeIncluded to handle the situation delicately.
I'm surprised that Janine has continued to be so promiscuous, she's had no trouble with going off with random men in the past (and even wants Lloyd to /love/ her, which is quite strange). I hope that now she's got some closure about her sister, she'll be able to talk about the situation with Radic.

Some people react to abuse by becoming promiscuous. They've been taught that sex is the only way they can get love.

Re: Murphy's Law 7: ...Maybe?
Ooh, plot development! :D This certainly gives me a better idea of what the church is like. You certainly show the work you put into the details of this world.
But... but that's the one thing this comic's missing! A mad scientist-type villain who uses Control Weather to make perpetual storms near his tower, and hires a cleric to use Call Lightning whenever he does an evil laugh! Damn you shades of gray!Last edited by legomaster00156; 2011-09-08 at 12:42 PM.

Re: Murphy's Law 7: ...Maybe?
I have a question from comic 150. Is Verdis Matt's Sister, some rogue god, or someone else?

Re: Murphy's Law 7: ...Maybe?
...Coffee, if you're going to explore the family ties of some of the main characters, can you please let people know in-comic? I thought Verdis was Matt's mentor or a gang leader or something. Learning that Verdis was his brother is nice and all, but I would rather learn it though reading a dramatic twist in the comic than see it in one of your posts.

Re: Murphy's Law 7: ...Maybe?
Time to begin mass post deletion to save those few minds that have not already had it spoiled. It's no problem, though, Coffee. Mistakes are made occasionally, especially when you get excited about something (believe me, I've had it happen).

Re: Murphy's Law 7: ...Maybe?
They use philosophy that ranges from postmodern (and subjectively wrong) to just wrong (objectively wrong).
Character motivations are non existent and the only cool character in the movies (The Merovingian) is forced to repeat himself because the Writers could not come up with any more good lines for him.

Re: Murphy's Law 7: ...Maybe?
The first Matrix film was thematically interesting, phiolosophically different, and posed interesting questions, with a backdrop of spectacularly excessive action scenes and an engaging plot.
The second and third were excessive action films with a backdrop of an interesting sci-fi world with messianic implications.
(They were still fun silly action films)

Re: Murphy's Law 7: ...Maybe?
If we're picking actors, may as well be live action.
Milla Jovovich for Radic!
Alan Rickman and Patrick Stewart! Dunno who as, but they're too awesome not to be in it. :PRecent Homebrew: The Socialite | The Crystalline: Memory Altering Construct Race | Sanguine Hand, a ToB Discipline of blood and cruelty
