    Default Most durable? [3.PF]

I apologize in advance if this is in the wrong place, but this seems to be the proper place and the question I'm going to be posing isn't really something I could just use the search bar to find.

I'm curious to know if anyone is aware of what homebrew base classes (for 3.0, 3.5 and Pathfinder) grants a player's character the highest level of durability and/or survivability (at least the equal of 3.5's Crusader) possible without being overbalanced or completely useless in practical play.

Thank you very much in advance.

I quite like the Meat Shield class, myself, though being a non-ToB martial class rather limits it's options outside of tanking. It gets 12+CON HP every level, among other tank-y benefits.

    I really highly doubt the balance of that class or the quality of it, even before clicking the link. ^^;

Reading through that Meatshield class, it seems to care more about getting back up then just being a hyperabsorbant damage sponge. I built a class i named the Guardian Sentinel specifically to be a mobile fortification.

My 2 cents. Though granted the class is more about helping other party members stay alive.

That's very close-minded of you. I hate when people disregard the whole of D&D Wiki, when there are indeed a few gems within.

Well, since you're fully aware of why people disregard anything from that site, you don't really have a reason to be up in arms over the natural reaction to being linked to material from there and should instead try to show why what you're linking isn't just another piece of litter on the pile.

Edit: I don't mean to sound ungrateful and do thank you for your input, it's just that DnD Wiki is...well...DnD Wiki. But I'll keep your suggestion in mind.

The only real value of the SRD wikis are that they are easy to read reformatted versions of the SRD, an incredibly hard to read set of documents. Wiki software at that is not particularly user friendly for page creation, and so there is the bias that the content itself is not fairly examined and rated. look at the number of topics here with significant portions of homebrew that never receive more then 10 posts. Content creation and commentary is far easier here then on a wiki, and it shows. find the top rated homebrew base classes on D&D-Wiki or DandDwiki, and get some oppinions on those classes from here. Considering that D&D-wiki has a base class that gets Perfect Evasion, i dont see it being a relyable source for homebrew

Theres also the Redshirt. It is exactly what it sounds like, but damned if he is hard to put down permanently.

My Savage is much like a Barbarian, with a little better saves, AC, DR and mettle.

Oh, and theres the Gladiator if you want to make something truly unkillable.

    Hope that helps.

Edit: Actually put the links in.

Well here is a prestige class which I made which will make you have a hell of a lot of hit points and defences, so combined with a barbarian/knight you could get tank all the hits.

There's my revision of the Barbarian which has pretty good survivability.

Its got better saves, a lot more uses of rage per day (Eventually infinite), much faster, better DR, gets Natural Armor as well, grants mettle, good at atheltics, can deal out large amounts of damage, immunity to death effects, energy resistance, endurance and diehard as bonus feats, and more.

Here's a link to it. Please PEACH it as I'm not 100% sure on the balance.

    2 classes come to mind:

    My Warrior
    Jane_Smith's Barbarian

Those are the toughest homebrew classes I know off that aren't tastelessly OP and both are guaranteed fun.
If I ever play a martial adept it will only be Jane_Smith's Barbarian, but I prefer my Warrior over any martial class I've seen so far.

Well, didn't expect to see something I made pop up.

And if you're curious, I'm in the middle of writing a subsystem for Pathfinder and assuming I don't have any immediate responsibilities besides my Pathfinder contest, I'll be updating the class again.

Id suggest going to the pathfinder srd and checking out the class "Armiger".

    http://www.d20pfsrd.com/classes/3rd-...-games/armiger

Gets heavy armor proficiency, d12 hit dice (that it can never roll lower then a 6 on, ever), gives nearby allies cover, etc. Even better; the armiger gains talents related to armor and shields, and with melee weapons and crossbows. He can use his shield hand even if its full to reload, hold, brace, etc a crossbow.

He can even get a talent he can use 1/day per con bonus to gain temporary hit points to soak a large hit. He even gets automatic half-damage from any spell that requires a reflex save even on a failed save, making his bad reflex progression moot.

Sadly he does not have much in the way of "GET OVER HERE" stuff to keep enemys focusing him, but there are a few feats and maneuvers you could take/multiclass into like iron guards glare stance/warblade and goad/taunt/etc that can help with that issue slightly.
