Default The Comic is Late, and Will be More Late!

Sorry, ladies and gentlemen. I am having unspecified difficulties of a vague nature. I would like everyone to know it is my fault, but not why. That way, you may assign blame to the appropriate party but not know how angry to be.

Perhaps I suffered a great personal tragedy. Perhaps I blew off my sacred responsibilities to letter Erfworld in order to see if there was any place around Washington, DC where it's possible to be served cheese enchiladas at 9 am on Independence Day. Then maybe I went to one of the 7-11 stores that has been re-done as a Kwik-E-Mart, and spent the rest of the day eating Krusty Os and reading Radioactive Man comics. Perhaps the law of conservation of detail makes you suspect which of these things it was. But consider carefully; I've misdirected you before.

Anyway, new page later today or tomorrow, and a Saturday update more or less on time. My bad.

So, wait ... you're saying a lack of cheese enchiladas isn't a great personal tragedy?

I was thinking that maybe the aftermath of cheese enchiladas + Krusty-Os was personally tragic.

Ok I tried cheese enchiladas once in California, and I understand those alone can be something tragic. But what are Krusty-os? (google sends me to a jillion Simpson's pages). How bad can they be?

EDIT: nevermind, I found it. Fictional.

He attempts to misdirect us once again! The comic will in fact be perfectly on-time, and we'll get a bonus strip.

Facts are made for ignoring. The comic came on time, but our worshiping was not enough to satisfiy the titans. The new strip is out there, but our believe is not strong enough to see it.

Oh, I can see it perfectly. Well, most of it. [Green] Cheese Enchiladas are great for breakfast, though maybe not in barbarian countries like D.C., and who hasn't blown off a whole day reading Radioactive Man? But I draw the line at eating Krusty O's!

Of course it is. He's a writer. It's not a sacred responsibility to the audience, though--it's a responsibility to his work. This is the way artists think. And it's also why, sometimes, an artist has to reject a deadline or schedule to maintain his sanity. It's not hard for an artist to annihilate himself while becoming a slave to his work.

Gah! Gah, I say. It's hardly as if the normal deadline was UK friendly ANYWAY. Still, no duty, keep up the good work, etc etc.

He has a responsibility to finish what he started.
That doesn't mean he has a responsibility to finish it in a timely fashion. =P

And thinking a responsibility means you absolutely have to do it is such lawful thinking.

I hope Misters Balder and Noguchi recognize that people are so distressed when their comic is late because they enjoy it so much. It's a rare compliment - wouldn't it be so much worse if no one cared whether it was late?

I'd rather have late Erfworld than no Erfworld. And its not like anyone's life depends on someone updating a really good webcomic. Plus, he could have the alternate motive of wanting to build up some suspense: the next page could be one of those groundbreakers.

Long ago, back when I used AOL and Kazaa and ran on the accursed dial-up, I came upon a revelation:

It may be mislabeled, it may be intermittent, it may take days, it may draw on for hour after dreary hour and the quality may be sacrificed to the point where it might as well have downloaded directly into the Recycle Bin. But, the price is right.

When it gets right down to it, this comic is a labor of love to yourselves. You wanted to create it, you wanted to put it out for us. What that means is, you come first. You decide where the webcomic lies on your list of priorities. Don't ever feel guilty for not sticking to a schedule or making minor mistakes. You're human after all, and you're providing this gem to all of us out of the goodness of your hearts.

    To summarize...

We'll let it slide.. this time.

Cut the guy some slack. He's not Howard Tayler (but who else is?) and at least he's not all "I can't post today because I've run out of ideas" like some strips out there.

Just don't let it happen again.

I thought we were going to let it slide 'cause we couldn't actually do anything about it? (Well, sure, I suppose we could pay them enough to make sure that nothing could ever get in the way of the comic, but personal sacrifice is so much better when others do it....)
