Re: You! (A picture/Media thread) Thread XXXI: Roman Numerals Make Everything Fancy
Just uploaded the last of my photos from the UK. Breaking them up to make it easier, but there will still be a lot. I'll try to be picky...
Pewsey to Avebury
SpoilerWe got lost and found a weird house.
He was trying to be grumpy, but I made him smile instead.
Homepersons.
Deaded.
Onna rock.
On Adam's Grave.
Thufir's "paeolithic".
On the... Stone Avenue, I think it was called.
Around Pewsey

Also a barrow (Thufir's at the other end of it).
TWO feathers in his cap! :I
Annnnd just a nice sunset.
Bath with Lesser Minion and Thufir.
SpoilerSQUIRREL!
Stonehenge, also with Lesser Minion and Thufir.
SpoilerLonesome Thufir is melancholy.
Onna tumulus.
My exuberance makes Minion uncomfortable...
Smoko.
I found a thing! :D It's awesome! It dances! Maybe I'll post the video of it dancing sometime.
Quiet, I'm hunting Thufirs...
London, and leaving
In case anyone still cares: I'll do the last couple of diary thingy entries as soon as I can, honest.SpoilerTeh gang!
Thufir, huge foot. Huge foot, Thufir.

Look at this awesome snake. Look at it! It's awesome!
Argument about Doctor Who (or was it ponies?) gets serious.
Nameless is deliriously excited to be at the museum.
Thufir ponders some decor.

On the train to the airport.
Not many people know this, but Archonic Energy secretly really loves awkward way-too-long hugs from strange young men he's only just met.
Bye guys

Re: You! (A picture/Media thread) Thread XXXI: Roman Numerals Make Everything Fancy
Serpentinnia: once again, amazing photographs of a place I so dearly would like to visit myself. God, Bath... just, God. I know it's a Victorian re-imagining of the ruins, but they did an amazing restoration.
What is the nature of the stones on Stone Avenue?
Anything to say about the experience of Stonehenge?
How wonderful; I wish you many many years of enjoyment with the property, and may your roses be full of cute fat bumblebees. I had not heard of white strawberries before this moment.
With that kind of land, I would plant a small orchard and vineyard. They don't require much maintenance once they are established. But that's just me and my inner peasant speaking.
Oh, and look at this, another batch of images, now with parental approval:
Student graduation, last summer:
SpoilerMe as a recently graduated student together with my two brothers, my aunt (on dad's side) and my two cousins. I was wondering what my sign would be when I saw this one over the crowd, and you have no idea how happy it made me. I heard some people mumbling about it being weird, but I didn't care:
Me and mum. The envelope holds my (high school) grades. They were good:
Gotland, last summer:
SpoilerStrong winds won't stop me and my brothers from enjoying the ride. Quite the contrary, actually:
It bears a striking resemblence to Hello Kitty/Bunny, doesn't it? I secretly believe it to be their bastard offspring, standing dormant, waiting to be awakened so that it can unleash its powers on the world:
Yeah, I leave it up to you to come up with something (in)appropriate to say about this one:
Summer house, last summer:
SpoilerMy cousins just can't get enough of teasing eachother. I can't get enough of hugging them:
The perfect solution to siblings' quarrel:
We have a beach too, reachable by boat:
Me, my brothers, younger cousin and good old granny (on my father's side, I'll never get used to not making a distinction):
Summer house, last Christmas:
SpoilerMe and little brother, ready to battle Dagmar and her forces:
Summer house, this spring:
SpoilerMe carrying around older cousin:
Summer house, this summer:
SpoilerThis is how every dinner goes when my cousins are around. Nothing strange in this picture, really:
Your whole family seems lovely, young to old.
I do have a reputation around Court as a rake, I confess. You still do better work than I.
30?! That is amazing! Could you play with them? I would love to have that many budgies on me at once.
You are a sweetheart. May I buy you dinner? No funny stuff, I swear

Re: You! (A picture/Media thread) Thread XXXI: Roman Numerals Make Everything Fancy
Who, my mum? And what does this have to do with my childhood?
Yes, it is a lot of work, as I said, but she'll hopefully hold another half of a century or so. Right now, most of the farm is owned by my grandmother, while my childless great aunt holds the rest. When they die, it'll probably be split between dad and my aunt, which should work just fine. The problem is my generation. There're five of us and one farm, and if we're all going to make families, then there might start to be conflicts. Somewhere along the line, there'll be a breakpoint, I just hope it won't strike hard...
It's a bit too far north for a vineyard (pretty much the entirety of Sweden is), although an apple orchard could probably work if you pick a durable kind. We do have cherry trees (okay, more like glorified bushes), although they only give a single berry a year. We do have currant (how could I forget them? They're practically half the garden) and gooseberry bushes, however, which both are well suited for the climate. I even found some wild currantbushestangles growing in the swampy area to the west below the fields which I've made into a personal project to try to trim and grow into something resembling proper bushes. It's a bit tricky, because the area is completely flooded whenever the water level is high, like it was this summer.Clouddreamer Teddy by me, high above the world, far beyond its matters...

Re: You! (A picture/Media thread) Thread XXXI: Roman Numerals Make Everything Fancy
I think this is our most awkward, and at the same time... most beautiful picture of the day.
Why am I so happy?
Why does Thufir look so smug? Is it the hat?
And why are the other two in middle there so anxious?
Questions that will never be answered.
I dunno, it depends.
What music does he like?
What films does he like?
What TV shows does he like?
What books does he read?
What's his opinion on cartoons?
But most importantly, who is best pony?
(The same would apply to Nameless, if Nameless' gender wasn't just listed as 'Nameless'.)Last edited by Nameless; 2012-09-20 at 04:29 PM.

Re: You! (A picture/Media thread) Thread XXXI: Roman Numerals Make Everything Fancy
Hey man, don't diss my sweet shirt! It's sweet as!
They lined a pathway between Avebury (the ditch and stones at the end there) with a now-disappeared stone circle (the one where Thufir was being all primeval).
It was substantially more impressive and interesting than I was expecting it to be - in fact, seeing it at all was really just an afterthought. And they're so gorram OLD.
1. Because you are adorbz :3
2. Thufir is ALWAYS smug. Fact. I even commented about it on a couple of other photos I took of him.
3. Because they foresaw the awkwardness which was yet to come.
Heh. I do get told I smile a lot But also, I was happy ^_^

Re: You! (A picture/Media thread) Thread XXXI: Roman Numerals Make Everything Fancy
From the caption I'd have to guess that it was your mother despite her not looking old enough to be your mother when I first saw the photo before reading the caption. Generally raising a child to adulthood takes a fair bit out of a woman, even women who were young when they gave birth. The more troublesome a child is the more there's stress about, and stress does an some effect upon aging.
Nifty. I wish you luck with that. Any of them young enough to try transplanting?

Re: You! (A picture/Media thread) Thread XXXI: Roman Numerals Make Everything Fancy
You had 110% of the forum in your harem for a while and are a byword for the most carnival of license and liberties in SMBG. Just saying. *hugs*
Oh dear. I hope the property does not go the way of The Cherry Orchard or some decayed Strindbergian estate. I suppose it would be too much to ask to institute a self-interested medieval policy of firstborn male inheritance ad perpetuam.
It's a bit too far north for a vineyard (pretty much the entirety of Sweden is), although an apple orchard could probably work if you pick a durable kind. We do have cherry trees (okay, more like glorified bushes), although they only give a single berry a year. We do have currant (how could I forget them? It's a bit tricky, because the area is completely flooded whenever the water level is high, like it was this summer.
& You might be surprised about grapes -- for curiosity's sake, I had a look at the hardiness zones of Europe. Only a tiny area of Sweden gets down to Hardiness Zone 3, which is what my city falls under, and I grow grapes in my backyard. They aren't plump table grapes, rather smaller slightly sour grapes suitable for wine-making or preserves. On the other hand, think of what you could do in Zones 5, 6, or 7!
I wonder if you could build some kind of French ditch into lower ground to keep your currant patch dry
About Stone Avenue -- I mean are the stones megaliths, placed upright on purpose, or did they form somehow standing out like that naturally?
I will come visit you in Australia with a posse comitatus of fat budgies. We will be like your Cinderella animals, only more badass and you less locked in towers.
I will continue to enjoy the possibilities in my imagination, then, unhindered by your discretion. A sophisticated pun for a sophisticated maid

Yeah, that would be me. Sadly, I don't think granny is going to allow that. Nor Swedish inheritence rules, for that matter, but don't take my word on that. I'll just have to go the way of the capitalist (bleh): get rich and buy it all. A flawless plan, isn't it!?
The small, hard and green kind. I've never in my life seen a ripe cherry on those trees.
Let me guess, a leeward spot by the south wall? It may work with terraces, but since the field lies on a west-slope, that's not quite feasible...
Also...

Zone 4 it is.
I think you misunderstood me, the reason to why it's flooded is because the surface level of the lake rises above the plants. I'd have to drain the entire lake. Also, the farm lies on a ness ("näs" in Swedish. The name of the farm is "Näset", which literally translates to "The Ness"), finding lower ground can be a bit tricky.Clouddreamer Teddy by me, high above the world, far beyond its matters...

Well I wish you the best of fortune sorting that situation out in the future. It would be a dreadful thing for such a wonderful blessing to cause strife in the family.

Okay, I'll stop trying to vicariously work on your land now.
