Re: Amidus Drexel's Alliterative and Awe-Accentuating Anvil of Random Banter CLXXXVI
BEST. IDEA. EVAR!!!!!
I honestly have no idea. I've never met this teacher, I don't even know what she teaches. And I don't even know the kid who apparently said it in the first place.
Well, for years I drove people crazy by being the only person in my class who did well, combined with being really, really, really weird. I was also a bit unpleasant as I got very tired with fools very quickly. Penultimate year, I was just absorbed in books, but I was still a real misanthrope, so I can see why they might have disliked me... And fifth grade, I honestly can't think of why anyone would hate me then. That was my last year before leaving that system, and I was basically the golden girl. Tons of friends, fourth graders (it was a multi-age class) looking up to me, being essentially awesome at every class, every award possible, main soloist in the choir...
I even went around and apologized to the people I thought had been right to dislike me the years before (For example, if I had called them an imbecile in second grade because they thought mummies were naturally formed.) And as far as I know, I never even me tthe kid in particular, and I don't know who the others were. It's really confusing!
Aww, harems are so impersonal. And I have a real life one.

Ha. Take that. 21 hours later, I turned it in 3 hours ago.
One of the two reviewing my businessplan looked it through a bit and said it looked good as far as she could see in a quick read.
Also, didn't manage to pull off the all nighter, went to bed at 5 and woke up at 7:30...

Sounds about right.
You lucky bastard. December has decided to dash my hopes and simply return to 60-70 degree weather. (so, 15-20 C) It's twice as warm as it ought to be!

Too bad to here. Where is it you're living (apart from somewhere in North America, judging from that weird temperature scale )?

Re: Amidus Drexel's Alliterative and Awe-Accentuating Anvil of Random Banter CLXXXVI
It's still lower than the regular skin temperature of +25°C, and definitely lower than the regular body temperature of +37°C, so I'd just be losing heat that way. On top of that, a quick test shows that I'm warmer beneath my shirt than the room around me, so no, I will no remove my fleece jacket.

Virginia, so.... ~37 degrees north? Somewhere in there. I'm used to it being colder this late into fall, though.
Fahrenheit is a weird scale. Apparently it was based off of brine, which, while no less arbitrary than being based off of water, is a bit odd. I much prefer Celsius; I'm just bad at converting the two in my head.Avatar by FinnLassie

Re: Amidus Drexel's Alliterative and Awe-Accentuating Anvil of Random Banter CLXXXVI
I got a care package from my family today! Along with some food and my juggling balls, my parents sent this advent calendar that the whole family has used since I was little, but since I'm the youngest none of my siblings are home to use it and I've always loved it the most so they sent it to me and I'm so happy!
So it was a pretty good day... until I managed to hit my face with a chair twice in the span of a minute.Quotes!

Re: Amidus Drexel's Alliterative and Awe-Accentuating Anvil of Random Banter CLXXXVI
You always produce heat just by moving though, and your clothing also produces heat, and internal organ processes. By 37° if you aren't sweating and with three fans and a dry ice block underneath you may have anihidrosis.
25°C is the standard room temperature; it's where pretty much all lab measurements are done (formation entalpies, entropies, Standard potential, the list just goes on). It is a perfectly comfortable temperature. 20°C is refreshingly cool. 0°C is absolutely fantastic.
Farenheit is based on the temperature of the lowest ring of Hell; that's the only explanation for it even existing.

Re: Amidus Drexel's Alliterative and Awe-Accentuating Anvil of Random Banter CLXXXVI
Yeah, it's good to be warmer than your surroundings. I wouldn't think of wearing a jacket until it got below freezing.
I thought 22 C was room temperature. Maybe those aren't as far apart as I think they are.
Hilarious! You don't mind if I sig that, do you?

Jacket: Piece of clothing used by the son when his mother feels cold.
The difference is slight, but 25°C is the one I've seen most used in chemistry reference tables. I vaguely recall 22°C (or was it 20°C?) being mentioned as THE room temperature though, not sure where though.
I do not, feel free to do so.

I'm... not quite sure what your point is.
Also, perhaps I should make it clear that my problem is that I'm freezing at a room temperature of 20°C despite being rather warmly dressed, not that I'm too warm (which practically never happens, as I'm a walking heat sink).Clouddreamer Teddy by me, high above the world, far beyond its matters...

Re: Amidus Drexel's Alliterative and Awe-Accentuating Anvil of Random Banter CLXXXVI
Very true.
My chemistry textbook.... was odd. It always gave us some non-integer number for room temperature. I can't remember what it was.
Yoink.
Probably a good idea. I think it would give me a low estimate, though.

That it being lower than 37 doesn't mean anything relevant other than you not being cooked. Yes, you lose heat, but you will always lose heat unless you are being cooked alive.

Re: Amidus Drexel's Alliterative and Awe-Accentuating Anvil of Random Banter CLXXXVI
Except for the fact that the speed at which I lose heat is highly relevant for how cold I'll feel.
As I said, I have no trouble with outdoor temperatures, and being cold all year round has given me a quite high uncomfortability threshold, but for some odd reason, I just can't stay warm while I'm indoors.Last edited by Teddy; 2012-12-03 at 07:10 PM.
