It's meant to be the same guy, but Veetock probably just made up a date without checking Vraks as I think he's never had a date placed on his ascencion to the post before the current codex as best as I can recall.

Also, going back about 20% of the way through human history (Which is about what the gap between 40k and the writing of the codex is) and going back to the dawn of human civilization is a big difference, even if the chronological gap is the same.

The Siege of Vraks is dated in the 6e rulebook as beginning in 812.M41 and lasting well over a decade.

In the Siege of Vraks background books, a Supreme Grand Master Azrael led the Chapter to participate in the fight for Vraks, in 821.M41.
So what did the new Dark Angels codex ruined the old one? Like Sanguinary Guard and their (ugh!) armor in Blood Angels. And Twilight references for Blood Angels (though it made them look like Angels with Rage issue).

Sanguinary Guard just have Dante's armour - which he's had since he first existed.

Do you have examples of Twilight references? Because as far as I'm concerned BAs have been drinking blood for over 20 years.

Dread Spacemarine Azrael? I mean he could be a clone, sucession gap (maybe he stepped down temporarily), or it could be a spacemarine officer who took his name and place.

Or, you know, GW is not terribly good with dates. Ulrik the Slayer's fluff has conflicting times within the Codex itself (He supposedly recruited and trained Logan Grimnar, but his entry says he didn't become a Wolf Priest until after the First War for Armageddon- But by that point, Logan had already climbed the ranks to become the Great Wolf).

It's also perfectly believable that Azrael is common name (either because it's a common name, or because it became a common name after the success of the first one) on their recruiting world, so it's not impossible for another one to have risen to power.

I'm not sure where you've got the sparkling bit from. As to their beauty, that a) Is hardly a new thing with Vampires (I.E. Dracula), and b) That's another long standing fluff convention. There's a reason for it too- The Death of Sanguinus and the Blood Angels suffering from the Black Rage is supposed to be a tragedy, because prior to that they were numbered among the greatest of all the legions, and Sanguinus was second only to Horus (And then only just). So the beauty thing is intended to evoke a "corrupted angel" mystique.

Blood Angels, as mentioned, have been beautiful since they were first introduced, since they were the children of the angelic-looking Sanguinus. Similarly, they've always drunk blood. And I have no idea why you think they sparkle.

I always thought that was more or less standard. Because hive worlds are either naturally inhospitable, or just so toxic that the remaining space has to be used upwards rather than horizontally.

I don't think Tanith is a proper hive world. A Hive is basically an Arcology, I think you can have a planet with one or more small Hives (As opposed to standard cities) without it being a "Hive World" per say.

Lexicanum says it was a hybrid Agri World/Hive World....presumably, that means the Hives were built vertical to save as much land as possible for farming efforts. Either way, it got burned to a charred cinder, so there's no hives there anymore.

I read somewhere that genestealers actually have a survival and feeding instinct, and that they try to flee the main Tyrannid hive mind via stolen voidcraft. Is this true? And if so, how do they manage to navigate without Navigators or Astropaths?

They have a strong streak of independence but are usually sent ahead of main hive fleets to infiltrate and soften up targets, rather than escaping from the hive fleet.

As for navigation, the easy answer is they don't. They just lurk in space hulks and the like and wait for the few times they drop into real space before launching any available dropships/transports on nearby inhabitable world or for greedy explorers to board the ship in search of salvage/treasure.

The brood's hivemind protects them from daemons and other Warp-based gribblies while the hulk is in the Warp, assuming none of the hybrids can get some Gellar fields up.

Sometimes they might 'flee' an approaching hive fleet, but that's not because they're running from the fleet. They're trying to blend in with all the other panicked refugees and resettle on the next planet over to prep it for Tyranid invasion as well.
