Re: Our Comic Lab in the Playground: An experimentation class
This is a little concept/pre-plan for Viola, a character in an upcoming fancomic. I intended her to be a young child - probably around 11 or so - with a bit of a bleaker outlook on life due to circumstances. The only thing I'm having trouble with is the "child" part, so I'm looking for ideas on how I could make the character, well, seem a bit less mature and more innocent, without making her too much so (little edits, adjustments in proportions, etc. I'm okay with going off of OotS style a little).
There's also something that I dislike about the hair. I wanted to make a child-friendly hairstyle without relying on pigtails or side ponytails, although the result ended up looking a bit strange. I'm trying a few ways to fix it without changing hairstyles entirely at the moment, though I'm not getting very good results.
EDIT: Concept Art of Viola. As you can see, the avatar looks really off, and that's been bugging me for quite a while - not really sure how to fix the problem.Last edited by Felyndiira; 2010-03-01 at 02:30 AM.

Re: Our Comic Lab in the Playground: An experimentation class
To make a child, scale the body down about 2/3, but leave the head the same size. Following that, group the whole thing (head included) and scale it down once more (look at Haley in This Comic)
As for hairstyles, maybe go for braids?

Re: Our Comic Lab in the Playground: An experimentation class
1) Yes, there will be. But don't expect it anytime soon, say, for at least a year.
2) Not really, i'm debating between several other characters from elseware in the series, like Dark Samus and Armstrong Houston, all I know is that Samus won't be the main character. I'll probably just do what I do with WTwU's plot and add characters on a basis of necessity.
3) *looks for it* Ah there it is. Yes, looks pretty good. I kinda liked the way the goombas looked before but their crab-walking ingame definitely leaves little room for realism. The koopas still look awkward, I recommend increasing the curvature on their beaks/snouts/mouths/whatever.
Other than that looking good.Dark Souls Remake in a Nutshell

Sometimes I make avatars too. Shoot me a PM if interested.

Nintendo-inspired comics aren't exactly a new and exciting concept.

Re: Our Comic Lab in the Playground: An experimentation class
Thanks for the feedback, Methos and Herpeste ^^.
The character was supposed to be more of an in-between of a child and an adult; I wanted her to look a bit younger than an average adult, although taller and older than child Haley. The hair, though, I scrapped and basically redid from scratch, resulting in the following:
Any further suggestions would be greatly appreciated ^^.

Re: Our Comic Lab in the Playground: An experimentation class
Thanks for the reply, Kev ^^.
The reason that she doesn't have arms is because it's a template; I'll add arms when I arrange the character into the comic. About the eyes, though - I actually tried giving her bigger eyes before, but it looked admittedly a bit creepy, so I ended up keeping the smaller eyes.

Re: Our Comic Lab in the Playground: An experimentation class
Makes sense.
Strangely I can't see why that would look creepy, but it hardly matters, it's good both ways
You spend all that time on figuring out how to make a female feline and not one of the main characters are one?

Re: Our Comic Lab in the Playground: An experimentation class
I still have to pick out names.
I needed the female body template for the beginning of the first chapter. Also could get handy for later on.
Alright, I'm going to work on the first page of the comic now. The page lay-out is going to be like an average graphic novel, though, so I'll see how that turns out.
Thanks for all the help guys!

As long as he can create the phylactery, yes.
Of course, the DM can make a level 1 human commoner lich if he wants, because he does not have to abide by the rules if he doesn't feel like it.**** Photobucket ; RIP avatars
