Re: The Index of the Giant's Comments
Reposting this.
*PLEASE READ*
I appreciate everyone's input on everything, I really do. But if we give that input in an orderly fashion, instead of in a flood, there's a better chance I won't miss something when it comes time to actually update the thread. Please take this into consideration.Last edited by ThePhantasm; 2013-09-13 at 10:41 PM.

Re: The Index of the Giant's Comments
Just came to say that I'm against posting that query on the Index. The Giant came here practically saying "hey, no stalking outside OotS", and the query is exactly that
That won't stop the people that knows how to use it, but I'm sure it will stop and/or not encourage others.
Just my two cents
Oh, and nominations I hope people don't reply too until Phantasm says it's ok

Re: The Index of the Giant's Comments
To be clear, if I post it in the OOTS forum, I am fine with it being indexed, regardless of how tangental the topic is. Whether or not it should be indexed is up to you, but you won't bother me by doing so.

Re: The Index of the Giant's Comments
So the general rule is only posts in the OOTS subforum can be discussed, but then anything foes as long as we agree. Well that makes it simple. Thanks Rich!
Speaking of which, I nominate the Pyramid Double Bluff explanation for removal."They couldn't know that the points from the mainline to the siding were frozen, and the signal should have been set at 'DANGER', but snow had forced it down."

Re: The Index of the Giant's Comments
Let me make absolutely sure I understand what you're asking.
Anything you post on the OOTS forum is fair game for indexing. Whether it should be is something we decide amongst ourselves.
What is NOT fair game is anything you say anywhere else in the world. The friendly banter forum, the role playing forum, your twitter feed.
Is that correct?
ETA: Meanwhile, I nominate this quote for the inclusion in the index. The Giant explains that the EOB soldiers dropping into hell's inbox are not all soldiers killed in the battle, but only that specific subset which are lawful evil. Their alignment is independent either of obeying Tarquin's orders on pain of death or their membership in the army of the Empire.
Respectfully,

Re: The Index of the Giant's Comments
Nominations for comments to be removed from Index:
Enor & Gannji are True Neutral! (10/24/2011)
Elan's Rapiers: He has 2. His original, and one from Julio Scoundrel. (05/13/2010; #723)
Why V Doesn't Have a Staff: There is no narrative purpose for it, and it would just be one more item to keep track of in the art. (03/03/2013; #878)
Malack is not Paranoid (07/30/2013; #906)
Tarquin Doesn't Have Trap Sense: "I don't usually bother making fun of mechanics anymore, but if I do, I'm not that subtle about it." (07/23/2012, #858)
Pratchett: Rich hasn't read Pratchett. (10/26/2009; #687)

Re: The Index of the Giant's Comments
The Enor & Gannnji post has been superseded.
The number of rapiers Elan has, and why Vaarsuvius doesn't have a specific magic item, are trivia, at best.
The Malack post was part of an extended explanation of "Why didn't Malack use a Word of Recall spell".
The Tarquin post is only relevant to a small subset of readers who also play D&D.

Re: The Index of the Giant's Comments
Parts of Enor and Ganji has been superceded, but the rest of the post is still relevant. The answer for why Vaarsuvius doesn't have a staff is important to those who have such expectations from D&D, especially now that Durkon has one. The "Malack is not paranoid" post offers more insight on encounter preparation (Relevant to OotS as it was then as it will be in the future) and a rather popular side-character's psychology.
The Pratchett quote answers a FAQ about the sources of the Giant's inspiration. It definitely needs to stay
The only one that might be worthy of removal in the future is the Tarquin one, because the most notable detail (The Giant no longer mocks D&D mechanics) has been superceded. However, the big purpose of that quote will be relevant as long as the strip where Tarquin detects the ambush is in circulation.

Re: The Index of the Giant's Comments
Can we get that Google query link in the OP? If most of the really interesting things the Giant might talk about aren't even going to be indexed here, (and searching directly for a user's posts probably won't be made available again anytime before the heat death of the universe), that link would be handy to have somewhere convenient.
Google query for the Giant's posts, for those of us who think they're way more interesting than yet another speculation thread but don't have time to read every thread on the forum to find one he's posting in.

It isn't all that useful anyway, since it only shows his signature, and not any content in the post.

It also shows the title of the thread he posted in, which at least gives you an idea of the context involved.

Re: The Index of the Giant's Comments
I think at this point it would honestly be easier to link the whole thread for discussion. Lots of stuff on alignment, the problems of making monsters Always Evil, and Rich's motivations for making OOTS here. Highlights include his regrets for panel 1 of strip 11, why he included dragons, and a lot of stuff on alignment.

He literally posts on every page (well, except the first). It really is faster to go through and ctrl-F his signature than to go through a list of 30 links to each of his posts.

Re: The Index of the Giant's Comments
Given how ofter Strip #11 panel #1 (Roy beheading sleeping goblins) comes out at debates about the comic, I think it's worth to keep The Giant's thoughts on the matter in this index:

Re: The Index of the Giant's Comments
He also missed Page 9 - but yeah, linking to more than maybe one to three posts from that thread doesn't make that much sense since there are simple too many. So if we find some who fit really well I would link to them, but other than that I would say it is really the best way to just link to the whole thing with a Disclaimer that there just too many quotes therein (to be precisely 34 posts)
