Default [3.X/PF] Things That Grant Feats

Someone was looking for a list of items that grant feats on another thread. I had a cut and paste from an old link. But it could definitely use an update. And while we're updating it, we might as well include classes, prestige classes, etc., from the Lists of Stuff thread.

Here's what I have so far. I apologize for the poor formatting. I'll clean things up as I make corrections. Please post any additions or corrections. In particular, I know I'm probably missing a ton of stuff from Pathfinder, Dragon Magazine, etc.

    Vile and Exalted
    Spoiler
    Show

Any intelligent and evil creature can swear service to an elder evil if the creature knows of its existence. Doing so grants the creature one bonus feat, plus an extra bonus feat for every fi ve character levels or Hit Dice. These feats can only be selected from the feats on a chart in the Elder Evils supplement. By RAW, there is no down side to doing this. In fact, many of the Vile feats are actually quite potent. But the DM will probably impose something on the player for doing this, such as the inability to be resurrected (because the Elder Evil decides to assert ownership over your soul) and/or having to carry out certain tasks or sacrifices.

Similarly, any Exalted (really Good) character can take the Vow of Poverty feat (Book of Exalted Deeds) and get additional Bonus Exalted feats at first and every even level, plus some other modest abilities. But it comes at a very heavy toll - giving up all treasure forever AND the strict alignment strait jacket of being Exalted.

Also, Moderate and Severe Taint (measured in corruption and depravity) gives you a Bonus Feat. A character with severe corruption and severe depravity would receive a total of four bonus feats. If the character has her taint reduced to beneath the level where she gained the bonus feat, then she loses the feat. (Heroes of Horror, pg 67)

Dwarf Fighter 1 substitution level gives Weapon Focus in all axes (at least Core axes).

    Hellbred(Body) get Deviltouched feats.

Swearing to an Elder Evil grants bonus Vile feats.

Martial Rogue get feats instead of sneak attack.

Clerics can trade domains for Devotion feats. Cloistered Cleric especially.

Dwarf domain grants Great Fortitude. Elf domain grants Point Blank Shot.

Alternate monk fighting styles grant different bonus feats. (UA)

Alternate ranger fighting styles grant different bonus feats. (Dragon mag I can't remember ~_~)

That's all I can remember off-hand. Hope that helps a bit.

•Evasion (Ring of Evasion, 25k, DMG)
Evasion is not a feat. It's a class feature.

•Uncanny Dodge (Warning Weapon, +1, MoF)
    So is this.

Also, Wizard 1 and Sorcerer 1 gain Alertness (thanks to familiar)

They get a virtual Skill Focus/Toughness as well (though I wish they'd actually grant the feat, then I might actually use Arcane Toughness and the toad would actually see use in 3.5, unlike its 3.0 incarnation...).

In Pathfinder, Rogues can exchange Rogue Talents for bonus feats using "Combat Trick" and "Finesse Rogue" talents. They grant a selectable combat feat and weapon finesse, respectively.

You also have variant fighters from Dragon Magazine 310 (I think) that that alter the feats a fighter can take in exchange for class abilities.
Pugilist, for example, gives Improved Unarmed Strike and Endurance at 1st.

Martial Monk (I think from the same issue but no sure) allows you to take Fighter feats instead of feats from the required Monk list, and essentially gives you Monastic Training (fighter) [ie: allows free multui-classing with fighter], for a loss of 1 skill point per level.

Wouldn't the Paragon's also technically be PrC?

EDIT: Oh, yes, those silly S's. I would have preferred it be a "kill point" too.

I'll list some of the obvious (PHB):

    Racial
    Dwarves: conditional Exotic Weapon proficiency
Elves: Martial Weapon Proficiency: longsword, rapier, longbow, shortbow
    Half-orcs: conditional Exotic Weapon proficiency

    "Items"
Familiars grant Alertness to master when within arm's length
Repeating crossbows grant limited Quick Draw.

Oh, so it is spelled wrong. I was hoping for a variant that gave more kill points. Though, by transitive property, I suppose that would mean Changeling Rogue's have more kill points that anyone and that just seems so right.

Swordsage's give Weapon Focus, I think.

Thank you greatly for the many updates.

Does anyone know the references for these:

    • Swearing to an Elder Evil grants bonus Vile feats.
    • Clerics can trade domains for Devotion feats. Cloistered Cleric especially.
    • Dwarf domain grants Great Fortitude.
    • Pathfinder Rogue: At what levels do they get Talents/Feats?
    • Bard 3/6/9/12/15/18: trade bardic music abilities for Haunting Melody, Music of Growth, Music of Making, Song of the Heart, or Soothe the Beast
    • Elf Domain: Point Blank Shot
    • Planning Domain: Extend Spell

I think the first two are explained at the start of the Feats sections in Elder Evils and Complete Champion, respectively. Pretty sure the wording on the Elder Evils explanation of those bonus Vile feats precluded the use of it to gain Vile feats not detailed right there.

You mean like getting Iron Will from the Otyugh Hole? Those are either PHB2 or DMG2 I think.

Alternate ranger fighting styles: Dragon Mag 326, pg 97
At levels of 2,6,11 you get the following feats for each style.
Bear Wrestling: Improved Unarmed strike, Improved Grapple, Stunning Fist
Mounted Combat: Ride-by attack, spirited charge, trample
Piscator: Exotic weapon:Net, Improved trip, Improved Crit

Thanks again. I've made more updates, and will endevour to clean things up and to create a second sort list (by Feat Name instead of source) in the coming days/weeks.

Looking over this list, it stuck me how dirt cheap some feats are. Fighter 2/Martial Rogue 2/Psychic Warrior 2 gets 6 bonus feats plus Tower/Exotic Shield proficiency. Extra Turning for 1,000. Improved Unarmed Strike for 4,000. Ride by Attack for 9,000. Combat Reflexes for 12,000. Whirlwind Attack for a +1 enhancement. Proficiency with any weapon (including Exotic Weapons) with a 1st level Swift Action Spell. Any Fighter bonus feat with a 2nd level spell. I feel the sudden urge to re-do half the melee builds written...

Doesn't grant the actual feat, and only applies to spells or SLAs. (Do we need to get really picky about actual/virtual feats, or should we note something like "same effect as {blah}, but not actually a bonus feat"?)

Unearthed Arcana Pg. 77-78: Expert levels 1,2 and every fourth level; Warrior levels 1 and every even level; Spellcaster 1 and every fifth level.

Heartfire Fanner can grant a feat (one at first, two at third and finally three at fifth) that they have to someone else. Dragon Magazine #314 Pg. 24-25.

Don't some pacts in Tome of Magic grant feats, or are they effects that emulate feats. (Because I know one gives 'Whirlwind Attack' (or was it 'Spring Attack'?)).

I love your lists, glad I can be a part of it.

EDIT: Also Vow of Poverty (ha) can grant extra exalted feats at level one and every even level.

EDIT 2: Dragon Magazine #349 Pg. 92-93: Barbarian ACF City Brawler. Grants Improved Unarmed Strike and Two Weapon Fighting (but only for Unarmed fighting); Paladin ACF Hunter of Fiends Grants Track as a bonus feat.

Unapproachable East: Pg. 20, Aglarondan Griffonrider Level 1: Flyby Attack; Pg. 33, Shou Disciple: Level 2 and 4, Bonus feats from a set list.

The werewolf template grants Iron Will and feats depending on the animal. I am away from that particular book for now so I can't look it up now.

Is it worth including a sub-list or other distinction for stuff that actually grant a feat (such as the Mobility armor enchantment) as opposed to stuff that grant the same effect as a feat (such as a 3rd Eye Penetrate)? The former can act as prerequisites whereas the latter can't, and more often than not when I look at such items it's in hopes of getting around the need to burn a feat slot on a useless prerequisite...

In Pathfinder, Half-Elves gain either Skill Focus or Exotic Weapon Proficiency as a bonus feat, if I recall.

Also, Quickdraw crystals from the MIC are 300g for the Quickdraw feat for your weapon. Quite handy!
