Cynical Avocado's Absolutely Admirable Accumulation of Random Bantering #165
Welcome, one and all to the one hundred and sixty-fifth version of our beloved random banter thread. here we can gather and banter randomly about whatever strikes our fancy... except for certain things:smalltongue:
before we get started, let's lay down a few ground rules
Rules List
Spoiler
Show
1. Spam. For the purposes of RB, one word posts are generally considered spam. Likewise, posts that are nothing but *actions like this* are also be considered spam. Remember that the quality of the post's content is much better than the speed of your response.
2. This isn't the Play by Post or Town forum, nor is it the Silly Message Board Games or Structured Games forum. Please avoid continuous roleplay or mock battles and fights such as the "competition for control of the universe".
3. If it's already a thread, don't bring it to RB. RB has such a huge range of subject matter even restricted to the little snippets that probably don't warrant their own thread, it doesn't need legitimate thread topics cluttering it up as well. The exception to this is to bring something that is off-topic from one thread, but on-topic for RB and the subject doesn't warrant a thread of its own.
4. Don't advertise other threads in RB. Just because these new threads move at speeds more appropriate to a message board than an IM session doesn't mean you need to come over to RB and brow beat people into posting in your latest brainchild.
5. Please don't post single line posts alerting us to your current status -- as in "I'm back." This is Random Banter, not "How to stalk Random GitP forum members."
6. Don't poke, kick or bump the thread. It will move at whatever pace it wants to. Also, please refrain from Captain Obvious comments akin to "My, the thread is fast today."
7. Random Banter can only be as good, or as entertaining, as you make it. Demands to be entertained will fall on deaf ears unless you can add something more meaningful to the conversation.
8. As this is a public forum, where the current topic is nicely recorded for you, and not a conversation where you could have missed the beginning, please refrain from asking something to the effect of "What's the topic?". Please take the time to read up a bit first.
9. Thread Creator must include the words "Random" and "Banter" as well as the thread #. Try to be concise as well.
10. Every post should contain two visible, legible complete sentences, Subject and Predicate. C'mon, make your old English teachers proud.
11. Remember, Random Banter is not your IM client. If you want to have a back and forth discussion with just one person, look in their contact information for IM details.
12. Whenever a new thread is created, all "first post", "first page", and all posts of that nature will be deleted by the administrators. Please avoid doing this, as it is frustrating for them to deal with one-lined posts like this.
13. Double-posting is not your friend. We have edit buttons for a reason.
14. Once you have made a Random Banter thread, you must wait 50 threads before making another one.
15. If you can avoid dibs calling on making the next thread, that will avoid people needing to wait if the thread hits 50 pages while the dibs-caller is asleep.

It's ok MoonCat, it was quite amusing.

Indeed.

I am in awe. Not only has French food lived up to all the hype that's around it, it has actually surpassed it. France, you have put me in a state of awe.

I've been twice. Once, I was like, 9, once I was 13. I must go again, and fully appreciate all that is French cuisine! I have gone to several incredibly expensive French restaurants in Toronto, though, and DAMN is the food good there!

Re: Cynical Avocado's Absolutely Admirable Accumulation of Random Bantering #165
I've heard that all the food in France is ridiculously expensive. Is this true?

Any recommendations in case any of us ever end up eating there?

I don't know the conversion rate, but when I went to France 3 years ago (to the day actually), nothing seemed insanely expensive and no one I went with complained. France is wonderful if you have food allergies though. I finally got to try a croissant!
-
Re: Cynical Avocado's Absolutely Admirable Accumulation of Random Bantering #165
Y'know they always say that about Europe. First of all, if you eat at restaurants the whole time, of course it's going to be expensive! Street-food and small grocery stores are the way to go, to really feel French life. Buy your bread, your cheese, and maybe your meat, and that's your lunch.
Same in England. Pubs and indian restaurants in London are a way better way to experience the city, and cheaper too! Not to mention the lower beer prices makes a SAVING. Same with wine in Italy.

Re: Cynical Avocado's Absolutely Admirable Accumulation of Random Bantering #165
FfH is amazingly compliant for me on this computer. I've managed to beat two of the three main scenario sequences, and beaten three out of four stray scenarios as well. Normally, I'd have come to a grinding halt at this point due to all the bugs that usually make some of these scenarios unplayable (the fourth stray scenario still seems buggy, but it's not important anyway). Now I'll try the last sequence of scenarios, so that I finally can get to play the grand finale.
Also, new thread, I see...

ION, Marching band camp has started. Yay for spending eight hours a day outside in upper 90 degree weather. :smalltongue: We've been spending a massive amount of time on basic marching skills lately, which is good, but it's incredibly boring. And I have sunburn. :smallyuk: But I have come across this AMAZING green sludgy stuff called Aloe, and it helps significantly. =3

Based on his/her location, I would venture the guess that the oranges s/he's accustomed to are the sweeter, jucier and generally tastier oranges that don't grow in the summer, and not those large, dry, tasteless, thick-peeled balls that I would get if I tried to buy one this time of the year.

Yes, oranges are a summer fruit :smalltongue: I don't know why there would be a problem with getting them...

I just saw his location and Teddy's post, maybe they don't have oranges in Israel this time of year, or they aren't very good.
Mhmm, roughly. 8-12 in the morning, and then we go back outside in the afternoon for another three-four hours if it isn't too hot.

Welcome to my life the last week and a half. We haven't been doing as much basics as it sounds like you have, but man oh man is it HOT. We've already had a couple kids pass out.

we had pre-camp-ish stuff for half the day last week, full camp started this week. We're taking forever to set drill this year because we're spending lots of time making out marching perfect before hand, and it's rather frustrating and I'm not really sure if it'll really work to our advantage or not.
We haven't had anyone pass out yet, but that might be due to the fact that we have to wear nifty Camelbak water things so we can drink water any time we want to without having to wait for a break.

Ah, we don't have that luxury. No we don't really worry about getting marching perfect until like October, since that's when State competitions are. I'm a little disappointed in the fact that I didn't get any new members to my section this year, though

We have competitions coming up soon-ish, but it's still worrying that we're taking so long.
We have one new piccolo to my section, she's alright. We have some other freshman that I actually like this year (last year's were awful) though, which is good.

Great animation. Kind of lackluster plot and voice acting in my opinion, though.
We got the new air conditioner today. It has a mood where it KICKS ON AND OFF. I'm in the lap of luxury. But I also think I have a cavity in my favorite tooth. Man.

But...but... we learned Moses' last name! His full name is Moses Moses! (middle initial is M for Moses too) And he had a wife! Not to mention the way where the Pharoah and Moses being brothers is well, MENTIONED AND EXPLORED. But the voices kinda sucked. "Oh boy, its the comedically stupid high priests! And their voiced by comedians! How funny!" Yeah I'm ripping off the Nostalgia Critic. Everyone does it!

To be fair, they were meant to be charlitans, and what is more fakey thn comedianss with silly voices?
Also, I like the contrast between the Dreamworks and Live Action movies. ANGRY GOD FIRE vs HAPPY GOD MIST.

Ah, I hate people going through my room. Being in here, I'm fine with. Digging around or looking for stuff is grounds for Nerf sword attacks.

I haven't watched Prince of Egypt in such a long time. Shame, I liked that movie.
ION: I just added a girl from my 4H camp to my Skype contacts. Now I have a whopping two contacts! Whoo! (The other one is Blue Ghost)

Cobaltday is over, and I have successfully avoided choking on cake, pie, pizza, foodstuffs, small objects, computers, handhelds, televisions, childrens' dreams, and all of the usual merriment that occurs on the aging of a Cobalt has finished without incident. Read: Merriment was very minimal.
Though I did have to register for school today. Which mostly means I'm finally seeing familiar faces, as I drop off radar completely over summer break. Though not much seems to change in the two months I don't talk to anyone...
Only now I know that I'm not having one of my favorite teachers after all for the coming year... :smallfrown: Sad Cobalt...

Not only that, but in Shippuden, an adult female turns up at one point and until it's explained, we're obviously supposed to think it's Haku. She turns out not to be, in the end, but I think it's telling that they chose a female to make look like her.
Besides which, we only have Haku's word on it that she's male. She could be, y'know, lying. Maybe she thinks Zabuza wouldn't accept her as a girl. Who knows?
There's no inherent problem with making Haku a girl in a fic. There is a problem with just ignoring the bit where she says she's male, but if you explain it adequately it's fine.
...that was a longer rant than I expected to go on. Huh.

Yes, I'm at home, and have been so for half a week or so. Sadly, my brothers are blocking our stationary computers all day long, so I haven't found a gap in which to Inkscape. I could install it on this tablet of mine, but I'm not sure I want to do drawing with a thumbpad (the pen is just bulky when I need to access the keyboard).

I've reached home and slightly recharged my batterries. Now all I need is to do something today. The boat was delayed. My train involved a trip on a bus due to no service. And my halfway stop had an hours walk pulling my luggage in the rain. But finally I am HOME yay. The sofa never felt so good.

Well...yes and no. France is in general expensive, partly due to the Euro. However, when you consider the cost of food in the context of everything in France, then the price of the food fits pretty well into the whole way of life here. Though I will admit that I miss Prague where I could buy a full delicious meal for a mere ten bucks.

Him having a wife isn't all that surprising. Jochebed and her father are mentioned a couple times throughout Exodus. As for the brothers...well it's implied in the original account. I don't know why it's explored. Maybe because fire is raining from the sky, and that's just too cool to distract from with family issues. :smalltongue:

While playing with Inkscape, I've learned something. I'm a big fan of 'appearances are deceiving'. I'm big on doppelgangers, lycanthropes and other shapeshifters and a lot of the creatures I draw are monstrous, even aberrant beings that are actually pretty nice people when I give them character. :smalltongue:
I've also found a LOT of creatures that are hard to recreate in OOTS style.

First of all, gonna say that I'm sorry for generalizing fanfic authors. I should of specified bad ones. HOWEVER, it appears that my comment triggered you, so I've got a lot to respond to, which means that in the end it was a success. Yay!
Not denying Haku looks like a chick. And not surprised they would use her design for a chick. However, and this may just be me, but I think the design is actually meant to be adrongyneis (however you spell this, I forget :smallfrown:).
If that was the case...well, it certainly would be hilarious. "I am a straight girl, but this Zabuza guy, I love him, but he wears cowboy esque, near assless chaps, so he might be gay, so I'm going to pretend to be a dude". That really is the most ridiculous topsy turvy type of story ever. And I like it.
And yha, explaining it adequitely would make it more sensible. Again, sorry for generalizing up there. We can atleast all agree that Haku, one way or the other, is the Ultra Trap :smallwink:

So, a news update about my mail order situation! Good news, Dynasty Warriors Gundam 3 HAS been shipped, and just hasn't arrived yet. The 8th is the last day on it's ETA, so it should be here soon.
With the other game, Catherine, there was SOME bad news, specificly Amazon couldn't FIND the game+preorder bonus+collector's edition. Good news, they ended up finding it, hooray! Bad news, eta Auguts 16th. But yha, in the end, everything is turning up roses.
Who mants to make a bet that something sour will happen?

I thought his wife was Zipporah, and Jochebed was his mother?

Re: Cynical Avocado's Absolutely Admirable Accumulation of Random Bantering #165
So Earth Defense Force: Insect Armaggedon is waiting for me on my porch at home, right now. For those who don't know of the game, or the series, it concerns an alien invasion of earth. To augment the conventional invasion force, the aliens decide to take some of the local fauna, super-size it, and then send swarms to attack cities. Their choice of creatures: Ants, wasps, ticks, and spiders.
Now I played EDF 2017 and it was a little creepy, especially when a giant bug came at you from behind and just took up the whole screen. The bugs were pretty realistic in appearance, though the spiders seemed more like large, big-headed ticks than spiders.
Now, oh man. The spiders look for serial like wolf spiders. The spiders in 2017 were about the size of a house. Now they're a little smaller but way more realistic, and therefore creepy. As a bonus, they made a really big one that just loves to charge at the player and spurts ticks out at you if you shoot it.
My friends love to play this game with me and hear my shrill screams of fright when a monster arachnid lands in front of me to give my relatively tiny soldier man a kiss. They also like to remind me that I'm missing my man card because of this game. :smallfrown:

Hmmm, I misread the wikipedia article. Well...a seminarian got something that simple incorrect. This is a tad bit embarrassing.

Today, I have seen true wrestling. Wrestling done well. Wrestling done with skill.
Wrestling involving a 9 year old girl.
Trust me, it's worth the watch. Better then pretty much all recent day american wrestling.

That "pig faced idiot" is the champion, Kenny Omega. It looks faked because it's wrestling, MoonCat, and hate to break it to you but wrestling IS fake. However, this is MUCH better then american wrestling.
