Elemental's Excitingly Excellent Random Banter: No.CLXXVII (177)
Welcome one and all to the one hundred and seventy-seventh annual random banter!
Psst! They're not annual!
What do you mean they're not annual?
They're not long enough!
Well, I'll just change the calendar.
*scribbles extra years on*
There! Okay, let's start this again...
Welcome etc, etc to the one hundred and etc, etc, ANNUAL random banter!
The Previous Random Banter, held last year (of course), can be found here:
Mutant Sheep's Post Septaquintaquinquecentennial ApRiL fOoLs Random Banter: #176
Typed below are the rules of this thread:
Spoiler1. Spam. For the purposes of RB, one word posts are generally considered spam. Likewise, posts that are nothing but *actions like this* are also be considered spam. Remember that the quality of the post's content is much better than the speed of your response.
2. This isn't the Play by Post or Town forum, nor is it the Silly Message Board Games or Structured Games forum. Please avoid continuous roleplay or mock battles and fights such as the "competition for control of the universe".
3. If it's already a thread, don't bring it to RB. RB has such a huge range of subject matter even restricted to the little snippets that probably don't warrant their own thread, it doesn't need legitimate thread topics cluttering it up as well. The exception to this is to bring something that is off-topic from one thread, but on-topic for RB and the subject doesn't warrant a thread of its own.
4. Don't advertise other threads in RB. Just because these new threads move at speeds more appropriate to a message board than an IM session doesn't mean you need to come over to RB and brow beat people into posting in your latest brainchild.
5. Please don't post single line posts alerting us to your current status -- as in "I'm back." This is Random Banter, not "How to stalk Random GitP forum members."
6. Don't poke, kick or bump the thread. It will move at whatever pace it wants to. Also, please refrain from Captain Obvious comments akin to "My, the thread is fast today."
7. Random Banter can only be as good, or as entertaining, as you make it. Demands to be entertained will fall on deaf ears unless you can add something more meaningful to the conversation.
8. As this is a public forum, where the current topic is nicely recorded for you, and not a conversation where you could have missed the beginning, please refrain from asking something to the effect of "What's the topic?". Please take the time to read up a bit first.
9. Thread Creator must include the words "Random" and "Banter" as well as the thread #. Try to be concise as well.
10. Every post should contain two visible, legible complete sentences, Subject and Predicate. C'mon, make your old English teachers proud.
11. Remember, Random Banter is not your IM client. If you want to have a back and forth discussion with just one person, look in their contact information for IM details.
12. Whenever a new thread is created, all "first post", "first page", and all posts of that nature will be deleted by the administrators. Please avoid doing this, as it is frustrating for them to deal with one-lined posts like this.
13. Double-posting is not your friend. We have edit buttons for a reason.
14. Once you have made a Random Banter thread, you must wait 50 threads before making another one.
15. If you can avoid dibs calling on making the next thread, that will avoid people needing to wait if the thread hits 50 pages while the dibs-caller is asleep.

Sadness, my blanket that my auntie made for me has a see issue near the foot area. As long as I don't play with it it'll be fine, but this was the best blanket ever.

Re: Elemental's Excitingly Excellent Random Banter: No.CLXXVII
I have what I surmise is the greatest blanket in the world. My parents got it for me when I was like, six. It has endured 18 years without showing signs of damage, stains, or wear. It has never ceased to be warm and fuzzy and green and awesome. The only thing that's changed over time, is my height... and yet, it still covers me completely, with room for wrapping up and snuggling in.
I'm fairly certain that the day I lose this blanket is the day I will die, because thus far, nothing else has been able to take it away from me.Amazing Mountain King avatar courtesy of the remarkable Starwoof!

Re: Elemental's Excitingly Excellent Random Banter: No.CLXXVII
This was true for me as well. Then I got a bigger bed. And some of my favourite plushies have become too worn after years of snuggling, so they have to live on a shelf nowadays. Most of mine still live in my bed, however. :3
You know, if this house caught on fire, I'd be willing to risk my life just to save my plushies. Knowing that I'm completely serious when saying this is a strange feeling...
ION:
My favourite flashlight is dead. It was a single white LED with a surprisingly high luminescence that I carried around in my pocket at all times, but I forgot it in the laundry and the detergent efficiently rusted all of its steel details, rendering it completely useless. Rest in peace, little friend, rest in peace.
Well, that should at least teach me to fasten my flashlights to my keys next time.Clouddreamer Teddy by me, high above the world, far beyond its matters...

Re: Elemental's Excitingly Excellent Random Banter: No.CLXXVII
Lucky, all of my plushies are in the shed in our yard, or probably donated without my permission *sighs*
Also, sadness, flashlights dying is pretty unfortunate.
In other news, who here is playing Legend of Dragoon? It just came out on the PSN shop, and I highly HIGHLY recomend it to you. If you're a fan of RPGs, but hate monotonous "press button get winnings" style RPGs, this is the one for you. It's the first RPG that I know of to use action commands.

Re: Elemental's Excitingly Excellent Random Banter: No.CLXXVII
Something I forgot to tell you guys!
Last Friday night - or possibly Saturday - I went on another pub crawl with Mathematics Friend and Physics Friend. We went all the way to North Oxford, past St. Hugh's.
At the first pub we went to we bumped into a lady - well, I say bumped, I mean, Math Friend asked her what she was reading that made her laugh, and we had a nice chat for an hour or more.
Odd thing:
Even though we went fairly far out it turns out that she had links to our college. That is weird.
And she studied French.
And tomorrow I have a French revision class thingy and I'm slightly paranoid and wondering if the lady we met in the pub is going to be the lady running to class.
Because that would be really awkward as we had fun, but also spent maybe ten minutes before we left trying to encourage her to come on our pub crawl with us.
And we mentioned that we go on these crawls fairly frequently and usually make it to eight a time.
And a few other things it's generally wise not to let your tutors/professors/supervisors know. And had a long discussion about earring and jewellery in general.
And I may possibly have said that I had hardly revised for That Which Shall Not Be Named, waving said Things off like it was no big deal.
I know the chances of it happening are really small, but I also didn't expect to walk pretty much to Summertown and bump into someone whose Significant Other works for the college.
And we didn't get her name so yeah.
Could you imagine the levels of awkward that would be involved in this tutorial if Lady From Pub Who Studied/Teaches French is running that class?
Pray for me.
EDIT:
OH MY WORD!
I just looked at her tutor/college profile whatsit, and while she doesn't look exactly like the Pub Lady it's also clearly an older photograph, and the facial structure is similar enough that it could be her.
With a hair cut and a darker dye job.

Re: Elemental's Excitingly Excellent Random Banter: No.CLXXVII
And to top it off . . .
There are morons - or at least rowdy sportsmen (so basically the same thing - hooray crass stereotyping!) downstairs cheering and stamping and chanting some sort of . . . chant.
And banging on the furniture.
It sounds exactly like all those scenes of American frat boys idiots being idiots.
If this keeps going on (it's been going on, but slightly quieter) for two hours already I'm calling the Porters to complain.

Re: Elemental's Excitingly Excellent Random Banter: No.CLXXVII
Troll, your image is stretching my screen somewhat beyond reasonable. Can you spoiler it, please?
Well, with a bit of luck, you left a positive impression on her nevertheless. If she happens to be your tutor (or whatever she'd be), just make sure to not look like total slackers and she'll probably forgive your somewhat lax attitude. After all, people are people, and since she seemed like a nice person, she'll probably understand how you can give school a lower priority from time to time. For as long as you seem interested...
ION:
I got my grade for the project work I did for my programming course earlier this spring(/winter): 4, which is good, I suppose. This, however, means that I have no idea where my final grade for the course will end up, because both exams I've written (which stand for half of it) got 5 as a grade, but all my hand-ins have only given me 4's (comments are my worst enemy), as well as a single 3 (due to a stupid misunderstanding). There was also a part of the course that only could give you a pass or a fail, which I don't know how to account for either, so now I have no idea if this is going to sum up to a 4 or a 5. 5 is the best grade, and I sure do know my stuff, so it would be really bad if a few bad comments brought it down to a 4...Clouddreamer Teddy by me, high above the world, far beyond its matters...

I'm one of the proud few who has refused to update Twitter on his iDevice, for the purpose of using a not-crappy interface. I've used it for a year, and I'm not changing it now.
Steam username is Triscuitable.
I got VAC banned in COD: Ghosts for using an FOV changer.
I try not to think of how sad that is.

I'm sorry, I got sidetracked when I read the "I can't stop it". That phrase has, without fail, always reminded me of the trainstage boss's deathcry in Starfox 64. (Thats ponies. Sorry about that, I find it hilarious.)

Just saw Avengers.
Thor.
EEEEEEEeeeeeeeee.
Though Stark had the best lines, although Hulk had the best moments. And Loki was an awesome villain.
But Thor... guh. Want. :3 Note to self: need to see the Thor movie."I'm just going on motive and opportunity here and the fact that if the earth got swallowed by a black hole, I'd look suspiciously in your direction first."

Re: Elemental's Excitingly Excellent Random Banter: No.CLXXVII
I KNOW! I KNOW!
All of the goodness yes?! And Loki is adorable and woobielicious. And I found out this film was technically released by Disney making Loki a canon Disney Prince of Lies! Granted he's also a genocidal god who desires nothing but the death of humanity (or to rule over it), but he's so cute and funny and sarcastic ("I'm listening", "I'll have that drink now") and handsome.
Although Stark definitely did have the best lines. Except that one the Hulk has.
ALSO!
Did you know JARVIS is voiced by Paul Bettany. AKA: naked Geoffrey Chaucer?!
Neither did I until after I saw the film!
All the goodness, which is why I'm seeming all the Marvel films relevant to this again (or for the first time - need to see Thor - for more Thor. And Loki) before seeing it again Saturday.
EDIT:
@v:
Oh no, my Things That Shall Not Be Named start in twelve days, and finish twelve days later. English finishes early, but I'm staying all term because I paid for it. Also friends.
And really? Topless Thor. Do want.Last edited by CurlyKitGirl; 2012-05-02 at 05:10 PM.

Re: Elemental's Excitingly Excellent Random Banter: No.CLXXVII
History finishes super early due to not having any exams. Last deadline was today for first years, and I move back home before the end of the month.
*hugs*
Good luck with your exams Curly.
It was a pretty damn good movie yes. I felt perhaps they were trying to hard to put so many jokes in (not to say that the jokes weren't hilarious, they just felt crammed in after a while).
The Thor movie is pretty good, and you get to see Thor without his shirt.

Yes, Loki was very handsome. Screw it, I'm going to have to find a way to get to Asgard.
Yes. Hulk's one line at Loki was the best line ever. Although Stark's line with regards to Hulk was just as awesome.
I felt that the jokes were well placed. Joss did a good job of it all.
..........
Thor without a shirt?
WITHOUT a shirt?

Re: Elemental's Excitingly Excellent Random Banter: No.CLXXVII
Congrats!
Three weeks and a day (or two, I can't quite remember) left for me, and quite a bunch of hand-ins, a project and an exam. Currently, I'm just chilling around in Logisim and wiring together a simplified control unit for a MIPS processor.
One day I'm going to wire together a whole CPU just for the hell of it. Perhaps I'll try to make a DCPU-16 processor. That sounds suitably challenging...Clouddreamer Teddy by me, high above the world, far beyond its matters...
